Manufacturing Engineer Lead
Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Lansing Delta on a full-time basis.

The Role:

In this role your responsibilities will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolve. 

You will be responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process. You will required to use your independent discernment. 

Manage a medium-to-large team of controls engineers and a small team of Mechanical Engineers supporting production departments

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

Responsible for management of Controls Engineering support on three shifts in all departmentsParticipate in functional area plant meetings to represent Manufacturing Engineering and assist in improving the plant’s performanceCommunicate issues to proper parties within affected departmentsProvide technical support, direction, and training to maintenance and tech support personnel in the production departmentsInvestigate system and equipment problems to provide technical input for problem resolutionYou will handle engineering projects with plants and/or Manufacturing Engineering StaffsWork with Vehicle Systems engineers at Headquarters to promote common systems, implement best practices and resolve issuesCommunicate project requirements to plant staffs and coordinate associated engineering activityProvide input of the Manufacturing Engineering plant budget, plan NPP funding forecasts and appropriate request estimatesDevelop cost estimates, investment forecasts, business cases, appropriation requests and plans for other minor projectsCoordinate with departmental tech support engineers and Headquarters Vehicle Systems engineers on new model process and equipment planning, including model changes, throughput improvements, sourcing, etc.Assist in the development of project support plans between plant, headquarters, and contractor resources (including paragraph 183 contractual requirements)Assure implementation of common electrical designs and GACCL component use for new or revised tooling, process equipment, and conveyorsMaintain proficiency in his/her fieldFunction as site-wide expert contact/resource for engineering issuesSupport, develop, and implement LMS support systems and global error proofing strategiesEnforce safe work practices as the highest priority, implement objectives for health/safety and ESWP initiatives, and chair plant safety lockout committeeMaintain good working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union management, supplier community and interface with support functions outside of the assembly plant as requiredDevelop project planning timetables and report progress to affected departmentsEnsure long term, cost effective maintenance of equipment and facilitiesActs as plant liaison with Vehicle Systems engineers at HeadquartersManage projects to minimize investment cost while providing conveyors, equipment and facilities that require a minimum operating cost (with maximum throughput, energy efficiency, etc.)Lead plant asset team and plan asset managementOwns various WSS, workplace safety system, and PS, performance standard, safety processes.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science (or equivalent experience)High level of analytical ability where problems are unusually difficult High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with othersHigh level of written and oral communication skillsHigh level of computer and technical skillsHigh level of plant floor and controls system troubleshooting skills5+ years experienceAbility to work off-shift and over-time as needed
