At Caterpillar Indonesia Batam, the Manufacturing Engineer role in the Assembly area is a hands-on opportunity to make a real impact on how our machines are built. In this role, you’ll dive deep into technical analysis of manufacturing processes—evaluating production efficiency, cost effectiveness, quality standards, and compliance with safety and environmental guidelines. You’ll be at the forefront of identifying and implementing equipment and process enhancements, monitoring reliability, and resolving issues that matter. This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
Travel Requirement: up to 20%
You will work both in an office and manufacturing shop-floor environment.
Domestic relocation is available for this position.
What You Will Do:
Participating in identifying and implementing enhancements and modifications to equipment and processes.
Monitoring equipment and process reliability; identifying and addressing problem areas.
Providing coaching and development for operations technical staff and support areas.
Providing engineering support on planning, development, operation, and maintenance of equipment, processes, or facilities.
What Skills You Have:
Engineering: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
Operational Functions: Knowledge of major functional processes and associated operating requirements; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
What Will Set You Apart:
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Experience Minimum of 3 years of experience in similar role. Preferably, prior experience working in a manufacturing environment, particularly in heavy machinery or large components with assembly processes.
Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is essential.
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying mechanical drawings for complex assembly processes, skilled in using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, particularly Creo, to support design and manufacturing initiatives and proficient in leveraging assembly-focused applications such as Teamcenter to manage product data and streamline workflows.
Process Knowledge: Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and continuous improvement initiatives.
Proven experience in managing departmental functions related to capital projects, including cost control, budgeting, and resource planning to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation):
This job requires extensive active movement throughout the plant including climbing stairs and steps, lifting devices, and pushing and pulling equipment.
