Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description:

Job Overview

As a key member of the operations leadership team, the Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Plant Operations Manager. Supports the Operations Manager and acts as the primary delegate in their absence. Responsible for identifying, leading and executing continuous improvement initiatives within all functional areas. Will lead teams within all levels of the organization, to review, recommend, resolve problems, or seek improvements concerning safety, quality, efficiency and cost.

Key Responsibilities

Focus on process and toolbox improvements (efficiency, utilization, quality); on efficiency improvement projects identifying technical issues to be solved, and on taking ownership of the projects from start to endContinuously improve manufacturing processes and equipment by identifying, developing and resolving technical problems to reduce manufacturing costs and waste; recommending improvements to production methods; determining manufacturing capacity, efficiency and machine reliability; and setting up production schedulesProvide leadership and direction to the maintenance team, ensuring effective performance management, development, and alignment with operational goals.Develop standardized extrusion and press/fanfold parameters to maintain standard setup sheets for each part number ensuring compliance through Supervisors/Group LeadersIdentify corrective and preventive maintenance needs for the achievement of the above and guide Maintenance Manager to set up Maintenance Plan.Utilize ITW toolbox methods (80/20, PLS, Inlining, USa and MRD) to improve operational performance and create model factoryAnalyze production data to identify trends, problems, and opportunities for improvement in areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and CostImprove operational performance and achieve improvement in Customer Facing MetricsPerform other tasks and functions as directed for the benefit of the business

Key Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in preferably in technical field in Chemistry, Engineering, Industrial Technology and a minimum of 3 years of experience or comparable working experience specific to Hi-Cone.Experience in lean manufacturing practices.Ability to communicate with all levels within the organizationMust be well organized, detailed oriented, and able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneouslyAbility to work in mechanically oriented situations in a manufacturing settingSelf-starter with effectiveness to see projects through to completionProficiency in Microsoft Office

Physical Demands

Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.Regularly required to sit and walk.Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

Occasionally works in an office setting  Regularly will work in a manufacturing setting and required to wear personal protective equipment (hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses).

Hours of Work

Normal business hours with occasional extended hours as needed.Flexibility with schedule to meet critical deadlines.Extended hours may include nights and/or weekends.Travel to other divisional locations as needed  

Compensation Information:

The base salary range for this position is $110,000 – $135,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location (this range is for successful candidates in the Chicago, Illinois metro area), and may fall outside of the posted range in certain circumstances.
