Purpose of Position
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for owning, evaluating, and optimizing current and new processes to drive efficiencies in production using lean tools. They must design and implement manufacturing methods and processes that continually improve employee safety, product quality, and labor productivity goals and objectives for both new and existing products.
Key Responsibilities
• Provides necessary support within the factory and department to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
• Troubleshoots manufacturing problems and implements timely sustainable solutions to maintain continuity of production flow.
• Participates on new product development projects. Interfaces with other departments during development process to ensure design for safety, quality, manufacturability, and cost position.
• Interfaces with other departments during development of processes to ensure design for safety, quality, manufacturability, and cost position.
• Designs, implements, and maintains manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters.
• Prepares design drawings, cost estimates, financial justification, and implementation schedules for production equipment and tooling.
• Reviews and recommends changes to mechanical drawings and process documentation.
• Reviews changes implemented by Design Engineers prior to final signoff. Recommends any needed changes.
• Interfaces with vendors and outside sales personnel to evaluate, cost estimate, and select purchase parts and production equipment.
• Leads, and participates on Improvement Workshops (Kaizens).
• Develop, update, and maintain Bill of Materials, product routings, and cost structure information in ERP system.
• Monitors and debugs production and test methods / procedures to ensure system efficiencies.
• Interfaces with other manufacturing departments to address and resolve operational issues.
• Assist in developing new members to the engineering teams on tasks/or tools they must be proficient in.
• May be the subject matter expert for certain products or processes.
• Performs time studies to set new production rates.
• Practitioner, facilitator, & champion of VBS tools identified collectively with manager.
• Demonstrates the ability to identify needs and promote continuous improvement outside of areas of responsibility.
• Continually seeks new opportunities to improve both processes and products.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred. In Industrial, Mechanical or Electro-mechanical Engineering, or a comparable combination of training and experience.
• At least three (3) years of specifically related experience required.
• Knowledge and experience with lean tools and principles would be beneficial.
• Continuous Improvement and/or Cost Saving Project Experience.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Experience with AutoCAD or Solidworks is a plus.
