**The Smith-Blair Manufacturing Engineer will play a critical role in driving operational excellence across all production departments. This position is responsible for collaborating closely with department managers to identify inefficiencies, implement process improvements, and ensure ongoing optimization.**

*******The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, strong background in lean manufacturing principles, process standardization, and continuous improvement methodologies.**
**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:** **To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.**
**Must possess basic knowledge of automation, robotics, and NC programming.**
**Investigate, analyze and compile necessary data for recommendation and justification of new equipment or processes, tooling, material handling systems, and energy conservation processes; recommends and coordinates capital requirements for future years in all areas of the plant.**
**Analyze, develop, and document budgeted and unbudgeted cost improvement proposals; recommends and coordinates cost improvement recommendations for future years in all areas of the plant.**
**Take a leadership role in Problem Solving and Root Cause and Corrective Actions projects to address existing manufacturing processes opportunities.**
**Support plant strategy by actively participating in planning, preparation, execution and implementation of Kaizen Events and other Continuous Improvement initiatives.**
**Promotes and provides guidance to sustain and advance the 5S culture to all levels in the organization.**
**Provide manufacturing engineering recommendations and implement programs which are necessary to improve manufacturing operations and plant profit related to:**
**Utilization of assets**
**Productivity of direct and indirect labor, manpower requirements**
**ROI and payback calculations on capital equipment, job evaluation and cost control procedures**
**Plant layout and feasibility studies and capacity analysis**
**Manage key projects and initiatives using detailed timelines (Gantt charts) and critical path tools.**
**Recommend improved methods and processes based upon the latest technology in equipment and systems.**
**Works closely with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.**
**Conducts conventional time and motion studies for the purpose of developing standard time for standard costing purposes, compilation of standard data on verification of established rates.**
**Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), work instructions and checklists for existing and new processes.**
**Support APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process and deployment.**
**Utilizes effective communications with all levels of plant and corporate personnel.**
**Must ensure that all safety and environmental standards are maintained to the highest level.**
**Participate in training activities, both on and off site.**
**Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities**
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
**BS in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineer or related discipline.**
**Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement tools.**
**Trained in Lean methodologies and principles, Green Belt expected within 2 years in role**
**Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills in a team environment.**
**Ability to work collaboratively across departments and influence change.**
**Analytical abilities are sufficient to handle all issues associated with Manufacturing Engineering and Continuous Improvement.**
**Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and operations.**
**Working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreement.**
**Must be able to handle confidential information and project assignments.**
**Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.**
**Intermediate knowledge of 2D CAD software (i.e. Autocad) and basic Plant Layout rules. 3D CAD is a plus (i.e. Creo, Solidworks)**
**Must be good and effective with written and verbal communications.**
**DAY IN THE LIFE** **:** **In this role, the working environment is both an indoor climate-controlled office and plant manufacturing environment. The physical demands may include but are not limited to occasionally lifting, up to 35 pounds, and prolonged exposure to indoor and outdoor environments.**
**The estimated salary range for this position is $72,300 to $100,000. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range. At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.**
