Managing Director
Civil Service Fast Stream
Job Description Are you looking for your next big challenge- one where you’ll have the autonomy, backing, and responsibility to transform a high-potential business?
The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and commercially driven Managing Director to lead a specialist manufacturing and distribution business through its next phase of growth. This is a pivotal leadership position combining strategic direction with day-to-day operational oversight. You'll drive performance across sales, production and compliance while cultivating a high-performing team culture. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of a well-established, quality-led business operating in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
Own financial delivery: Lead the organisation to achieve and exceed financial goals, managing the full P&L, cash flow and working capital performance. Strategic planning: Develop, maintain and communicate robust budgets and forecasts, providing timely insights to stakeholders with a “no surprises” approach. Drive growth: Identify and deliver growth opportunities—both organic and acquisitive—that align with the company’s long-term vision. Enhance commercial performance: Support and guide the sales team on global key accounts, helping unlock new revenue streams and deepen client relationships. Operational excellence: Streamline production, inventory and distribution processes, aligning them to the business plan and ensuring efficiency and compliance. Leadership and culture: Build, mentor and lead a cohesive senior management team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and employee wellbeing. Ethical leadership: Uphold and promote the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and safety in all aspects of the business.
Requirements
Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in senior leadership, ideally within a regulated manufacturing or product-led environment. Proven track record of achieving strong commercial outcomes, even in challenging market conditions. Expertise in leading operations under ISO standards and within regulated frameworks. Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget ownership and strategic forecasting. Skilled in developing teams and implementing people-focused strategies in collaboration with HR. Excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills. Degree or equivalent experience preferred; a background in engineering or finance is advantageous. A confident, values-led leader who balances results with people-first thinking.
The Business
This is a well-respected, product-driven business with a global customer base and a reputation for quality, reliability and compliance. Operating within a highly regulated sector, the company combines technical expertise with a strong commercial focus. With an ambitious growth strategy and investment in both people and process, this opportunity offers a unique platform for a high-impact leader to shape the future of the business and deliver long-term, sustainable success.
