Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

We are currently recruiting for a Manager – Sustaining Capital Projects who will report to the General Manager of our Tanami Operation.
This role is being offered on a 4:3:8:6 roster. You can FIFO from Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth or Brisbane and reside in our fully equipped accommodation village.
About the Role
This role is responsible for the management of key sustaining capital projects as they relate to the business plan and strategy. Projects vary widely in scope, complexity and size and will require varying degrees of involvement.
The role will be acting as the owner’s representative and will be required to manage multiple stakeholders including internal partners, consultants and contractors.
The role includes the management of engineering, vendors, consultants, risk & opportunity, design, procurement, cost scheduling, construction, start-up, turnover, commissioning, completion, and interaction with key personnel on the various projects including other discipline leaders within the project team, the regional and corporate functional leads, key personnel from the Tanami Operations team, and other stakeholders as required.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects to ensure the successful and safe execution of all Capital Projects outside the scope of the Tanami Expansion 2 Project. This includes but not limited to the management of EPCM and EPC engineers, contractors, construction workers, engineers, and associated staff on a brown field project with peak workforce (including staff) of up to 150 people.Monitor and report safety and environment standards and direct mitigation strategies supporting a work environment that is protective of human health and the environment in accordance with Newmont standards.Direct the execution planning, design, engineering, procurement, cost, scheduling and construction activities of a business by coordinating efforts of various internal departments, project development teams and outside consulting resources.Oversee development of proposals and cost estimates; estimates business needs including equipment, materials and personnel; schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.Review, evaluate and approve contracts for work to be performed by consultants and outside contractors; monitors budgets, approves plans and designs and resolves problems as they arise.Coordinate the development of project budgets and plans, ensuring alignment with the Life of Mine (LOM) and long-term financial goals.Monitor all work in progress to ensure that quality and engineering standards are met and that designs are effective through the entire process; and approve changes to designs or schedules as necessary.Provide technical direction in the resolution of problems associated with the design, engineering and construction of the project. Problems will vary in severity and require an advanced knowledge of project management to ensure adequate resolution. Provide technical assistance to operating personnel during start-up phase; including management of personnel.Manage the safe execution and timeliness of the current years portfolio of projects.
About You
A tertiary qualification in an engineering or related discipline with experience within technical, supervisory and management roles in the mining industry.A proven track record in project execution, including experience with brownfields projects and demonstrated commitment to the successful implementation of the project.Demonstrated experience with self-perform, EPCM, EPC project execution teams.Experience in operation of gold processing plants and open pit and underground operations.Provide leadership in line with our values, and proven ability to lead, develop and manage diverse teams in a mining or minerals processing environment.Expertise in managing project life cycles, including planning, execution, and budget control.Demonstrated ability to coordinate the assimilation of Project and Operation’s Business plans, to achieve the project objectives.Strong understanding and application of safety standards and regulatory requirements specific to mining operations.
