Position Overview


We are seeking a highly motivated Security Engineering Manager to lead our efforts in designing and implementing progressive security technologies across our organization. This role will be instrumental in evolving our enterprise security posture through Zero Trust principles, passwordless authentication, advanced endpoint protection, and modern access control frameworks.


As the Security Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers, set technical direction, and collaborate cross-functionally with IT, infrastructure, and information security to scale secure, resilient, and user-friendly defenses that enable the business. Reporting to the Director of Platform Security, this position will also work closely with a variety of internal stakeholders to execute Paylocity's corporate-wide security initiatives. The manager in this key role will also ensure that Paylocity's security operations processes are functioning effectively and will oversee operations metrics.


Primary Responsibilities

Manage a team responsible for maintaining and/ or implementing the foundational security tools needed to run a next generation information security organization (SIEM, Endpoint Detection and Response, Privileged Account Vaults, ZTNA, etc.)Define and lead the roadmap for progressive security initiatives, including ZTNA, WebAuthn/FIDO2, EDR/XDR, and related technologies.Guide and mentor a team of security engineers through technical execution and career growth.Advocate for Zero Trust and secure-by-design principles across infrastructure and development teams.Architect and oversee the implementation of passwordless authentication solutions (e.g., WebAuthn, FIDO2, device-based credentials).Drive adoption of ZTNA models across workforce and third-party access scenarios.Lead selection, deployment, and tuning of EDR/XDR solutions and their integration with SIEM/SOAR pipelines.Partner with various technology teams to define scalable security controls and policies.Design automated detection, response, and recovery workflows for endpoints, servers, and user identities.Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of established security solutions.Evaluate emerging technologies and vendors in the identity, access, network, and endpoint security domains.Work closely with IT, infrastructure, and application teams to embed security controls early and often.Act as a technical liaison between security operations and engineering for escalations, architecture reviews, and incident response.


Education and Experience

Minimum 7 years of experience in Information SecurityMinimum 3+ years managing a security engineering functionMinimum 5 years of experience in direct people managementBachelor's degree with a preference for computer science, information security, management information systems, or related majorProven experience implementing ZTNA architectures (e.g., BeyondCorp, Cloudflare, Zscaler, or similar).Deep understanding of modern authentication technologies: WebAuthn, FIDO2, device trust, MFA, etc.Hands-on experience with EDR/XDR platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint).Strong knowledge of endpoint, identity, and cloud security controls in enterprise environments.Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, MITRE ATT&CK, CIS Benchmarks) and how to apply them to engineering decisions. Prior work in a hybrid cloud/SaaS environment.Proficiency in scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, Terraform) for security workflows.Strong project management skillsExcellent communication skills (written and verbal)Possess business acumen and technical expertise to create a big-picture vision and has the drive and attention to detail that transforms strategy into action

The pay range for this position is $113,300 - $161,800 /yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location. Fully Remote (U.S. Only): This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements.  You must be available five days per week during designated work hours.  The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance. This may include adjustments to on-site requirements or schedule expectations, as necessary.
