How will you make an impact in this role?
Business Continuity Management (BCM) is essential in today’s environment. The ability to respond to a disruption such as a natural disaster, infrastructure failure, or pandemic underpins our commitment to deliver for our customers and protect our colleagues.
This team works with colleagues across the Company to oversee and implement resilience, continuity, and response capabilities to safeguard employees, customers, and products and services. The team coordinates planning and preparedness for potential service disruptions and other crises. The team also coordinates global or regional crisis responses, monitors developing issues while assessing organizational preparedness, and drives after-action crisis analyses and reporting for senior leaders.
The Manager will be responsible for working with key stakeholders across the Company to operationalize and execute BCM program requirements by conducting independent risk and quality assurance as well as providing credible challenge.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and maintain the quality assurance and consequence management framework for BCM program adherence. Provide oversight on program requirements and ensure appropriate execution by Business Unit teams. Provide effective challenge with a risk lens. Keep abreast of changing regulatory requirements and resiliency needs of the company and lead the development of program strategy. Oversee the relationship with key stakeholders, including Global Risk and Compliance (2nd Line), Internal Audit (3rd Line), GCO, Third Party Management, and Technology Resilience. Support regulator, Internal Audit, and 2nd Line Oversight reviews. Build relationships with business leaders to ensure business continuity is appropriately demonstrated and reflected in a culture of active risk management across the Company. Support Capability Design and Development as and when required. Coach and lead a team of colleagues to deliver impactful results.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience and Background:
· 5+ years’ experience in Risk Management and/or Business Continuity. Experience of the Risk Oversight function is desirable.
· Strong understanding of American Express products, services, and organizational structure
· Proven success at developing and executing risk frameworks and leading independent reviews for quality assurance and credible challenge.
· Ability to see the big picture with attention given to critical details and identify gaps.
· Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure.
· Strong business acumen and demonstrated thought leadership
· Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities and provide clarity in ambiguous situations.
· Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

· Proven people leader who can build, inspire, develop, and coach a team.
· Excellent relationship, collaboration, and presentation skills with ability to interact and influence leaders across all levels and teams in a matrixed organization.
· Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged.
· Ability to communicate key risks to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders.
