Position Summary
Provides visionary and strategic leadership to successfully develop, implement and manage the mission critical enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) database and subsequent systems used in various aspects of Xcel Energy's Gas and Electric Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Engineering, Public Relations and many other departments of the Company. Ensures accurate and effective use of consistent standards and processes by enforcing continuous integration and optimization in accordance with best practices. Works to advance the function and data quality of the GIS and subsequent mapping systems to achieve and surpass industry GIS and mapping standards through technology and process improvement. The Geospatial Technology and Data Integrity Manager position has stewardship of the GIS data. Stewardship of the GIS includes but is not limited to: Oversight of the team(s) responsible for updating and maintaining the GIS and subsequent mapping systems and products; end user support, training and process documentation; and the development and implementation of system enhancement projects based on functional business requirements. Works with other Xcel Energy leadership to determine additional business areas which may find value in a Geospatial Software System, leveraging the GIS data and functionality to all applicable areas of the company

Data Integrity - The GIS Data is a valuable corporate asset whose accuracy is paramount to Xcel's business operations. Applications will be built to use and maintain this data which affects many business decisions. It is critical this data's accuracy is improved upon where necessary to exceed industry standards or at a minimum is maintained in order to continue providing Xcel Energy with the highest quality data possible. This position is responsible for managing the employees assigned to data maintenance, end user training, data analysis, system enhancement testing, and all additional GIS mapping department duties to ensure this occurs.
Process Improvement - Develops and implements business strategies, operational plans and best practices related to the GIS and subsequent mapping job functions. Oversees daily operations to ensure cost effective and efficient use of capital and human resources by identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing solutions.
Technology Advancement - Strategically partners with the Business Systems organization in the development of IT solutions that focus on improving employee productivity and enhancements to customer service as related to the GIS and all subsequent mapping systems. Examples would include but not be limited to: mobile applications, web-based applications, gas and electric design systems, and interfaces between the GIS database and other enterprise applications. In addition, develops and implements reports utilizing the systems above that will accurately outline costs, mapping department productivity, data improvement opportunities, and efficiently support audit activities as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, Eng. or related or equiv. experience is required.
Minimum 5-10 years utility experience and at least 3-7 years leadership experience, or any combination demonstrating equivalency.
Proven experience successfully completing enterprise application implementation initiatives on time, within scope and within budget constraints.
Demonstrated skills to improve business process using process improvement techniques.
Superior communication, interpersonal and relationship management skills required with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior management.
Understanding of core business processes and industry trends and a strong knowledge of Geospatial technologies with an emphasis in utility implementations.
Strong knowledge of applicable PC programs and MS-Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Access).
Travel across Xcel Energy Enterprise Service Territory required.
Preferred Characteristics
Prior experience working within the Geospatial team at Xcel Energy
Possession of an advanced degree
PMP and/or GISP certification.
