The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park Headquarters (Lake County) location in the Corporate FP&A.
The Finance Manager provides accounting and financial reporting activities in support of the US Corporate Benefits Finance team. The primary objectives of Corporate Benefits Finance team are the accurate accounting and financial reporting in support of Corporate Finance and Corporate HR Benefits business partners. The Corporate Benefits Finance team manages a +$1B gross budget and corresponding allocations across Abbott as well as compliance and Trust activities for the Abbott benefits plans. This role interfaces with Abbott senior leaders and external auditors.
Corporate Benefits accounting and reporting requires critical analysis and forward thinking to analyze and understand the financial implications between benefit programs, payroll, headcount, and business operations from an internal and external point of view. This position will also play a key role in transforming the Corporate Benefits accounting and reporting processes by utilizing new financial tools and processes and identifying/implementing technology and process efficiencies for the organization.
Key activities include:
• Manage month-end closing activities, including, journal entry preparation, account analysis, intercompany transfers, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and financial reporting for Abbott US Corporate Benefits and other Corporate organizations.
• Manage healthcare provider transactions between ERISA trust financials and Abbott financials
• Partner with the Human Resources Corporate Benefits team and third-party providers and vendor support teams to ensure provider/vendor transactions are properly accounted for.
• Partner with FP&A team to support the Plan/LBE forecasting activities
• Perform financial and business analytics and participate in the decision making process
• System administrator for Power BI Benefits Financial Reporting application
• Ensure compliance with SOX, ERISA, internal controls, Abbott Corporate and division/department specific policies and procedures
• Provide support for internal and external audits and Corporate Tax requests
• Execute timely and accurate financial activities in support of business partners.
• Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures for assigned activities.
• Identify and implement process efficiencies
• Operate independently, be flexible in changing environment and challenge the status quo.
• Manage 2 direct reports.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance
•7-10 years of experience in general accounting/reporting/FP&A including 5+ years management experience.
• Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Strong Microsoft skills, including use of pivot tables, vlookups and analysis of data using Excel, some VBA macros knowledge helpful
• Ability to summarize/analyze large data sets with the aid of Microsoft tools, Power BI, Alteryx or similar applications
• Requires knowledge of applying accounting principles and regulations to business situations.
• Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
• Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
• Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with large ERP system; SAP preferred
• CPA preferred
• Experience with Corporate Benefits or shared services accounting preferred
The base pay for this position is $111,300.00 – $222,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
