Functional Description:

The Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all processes and geographies at American Express. The GRC Platforms and capabilities team within GRC is responsible for building and implementing innovative solutions for risk management applying data engineering principles to data requirements with a strong focus on data governance and data quality.

We are looking for a strategic, experienced individual for the role of Manager, responsible for partnering across business units, enterprise technology teams, and product/platform teams. Develops deep understanding of business logic, intent and long term objectives to align priorities and develop long term solutions.

Job Description:

This position is within the GRC Platform and Capabilities team within Global Risk and Compliance Line of Business. The Manager of Data Management & Capabilities position will provide day to day strategic support in implementing the data capabilities to support the GFCC processes and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. This is a highly visible and strategic position within the company.

Role & Responsibilities:

·       Own data processes and capabilities end to end

·       Be the subject matter expert for the work stream with in-depth knowledge of risk systems and processes.

·       Collaborate with business partners and colleagues in defining vision, strategy and roadmap

·       Establish and maintain and comprehensive data solution leveraging existing data management frameworks to support multiple GRC applications

·       Responsible for ensuring data management principles are applied to each data requirement

·       Manage the complete lifecycle of AML transaction monitoring Rules

·       Establish and maintain reporting and analytical capabilities to support outcome assessments, metric monitoring and insight generation

·       Enable cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders such as Risk, Compliance, Privacy, Operations, Legal etc. to define solutions.

·       Enable data quality controls (like detective, preventive, B&Cs) for batch and real time data & partners with tech teams for implementation

·       Collaborate with engineering partners in defining system architecture and design and detailed work plan

·       Be a storyteller and clearly articulate the why, what, and how of the product or feature

·       Define and articulate business metrics and targets for initiatives and platforms and own ongoing monitoring and improvements

·       Collaborate with Federated Data offices in defining the roadmaps for creation of controls around the data consumed by GRC applications

·       Lead the transformation of critical risk data process on the POD platforms to POA and integrate them into risk systems

·       Lead the development of capabilities to reduce manual operations and prevent operational risk

·       Establish standard processes for data discovery and stewardship to help rationalize the data needs across various GRC applications

·       Maintain software product roadmap that closely aligns with the strategy

·       Work closely with the Technology team to develop, test and deliver the platform capabilities and features and rapidly iterate new solutions through automation and demo/prototyping.

·       Ensure that the appropriate tracking and reporting is in place to track performance post launch to evaluate future investment.

·       Anticipate program/project risks and issues and ensures that appropriate mitigation planning is in place to avoid compromising delivery

·       Understand and apply new trends and competitive best practices into requirements and team method of work

·       Lead and mentor product managers in aligning roadmap and user stories into the Backlog 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. Advanced degree in Business or Engineering preferred

• 4+ years of hands on experience working on large size data capability and analytical projects in the BFSI domain

• 2+ years Financial Crimes risk management experience

• 2+ years data sourcing, data profiling and data stewardship experience

• 3+ years experience in building sql capabilities on big data platforms like GCP

• Strong hands on experience in tracking delivery status and reporting the enterprise programs

• Thought leadership and solution-oriented mindset

• Ability to think strategically and set POA direction

• Experienced people leader with exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to explain complex problems and ideas clearly and succinctly to senior leaders. 

• Proficient in collaboration to drive results

• Deep understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts (metadata, lineage, data quality, etc.)

• Preferred experience with Python, Hive

• Proven track record of driving results in a fast-paced environment often with significant ambiguity and needing to make decisions with less than perfect information
