Manager Billing and Coding

Job Duties
Manage department via monitoring of workflow, productivity, accuracy, and all other areas of staff management.
Ensure compliance with external agencies as related to coding.
This may include working to reduce the volume of coding denials through claim edit management. This would include feedback to the EPIC team as well as feedback to providers/clinics regarding coding practices and payor policies.
Identifies patterns, trends and variations and collaborate to resolve or explain variances. Analyze gaps and risks in order to mitigate.
This may include feedback to the EPIC team/ providers/clinics for resolution. Improves successful denial appeal rate, where applicable.
Monitor and report on adherence to key departmental metrics. Establish process improvement as needed to achieve metrics.
Monitor, manage/respond to coding questions via the coding quality distribution e-mail, service excellence requests for review and provider/clinic questions.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree HIM or related field required. Or, 4 additional years with relevant experience in lieu of a degree is required
Experience
5 years coding and charge capture for physician professional coding and billing required with degree, or 9 years required without a degree
4 years Managing a team required
Licenses and Certifications
CPC – Certified Professional Coder or CCS-P – Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based required upon hire
CPB – Certified Professional Billing preferred upon hire
Skills
Knowledge of appeals process and ability to review/resolve denials, Fee Schedule functions for professional billing as well as CPT, ICD 9, ACD 10 and HCPCS level II coding systems. Knowledge of physician practices operations, charge capture, revenue cycle and CMS regulations, excellent communication skills, detail oriented, strong knowledge of professional billing information system (preferred)l
