Manager – Suspension Systems and Component Engineering

A technical leadership role responsible for technical content, quality & program cost delivery for Suspension Systems and Component Engineering. In this role, you will serve as the applications manager for Suspension, ensuring robust design & delivery.  This individual will lead all technical & business plan aspects of Suspension Engineering, including supplier development & selection, product verification & production validation, engineering sign-off, launch, ongoing product support & quality assurance of products in the field.  In addition, the Suspension Manager will lead professional development of team members, oversee budgeting & resource allocation within their department.

You'll have...

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field. 10 years of experience in Suspension systems engineering with increasing levels of project & team management. Demonstrated deep technical understanding & significant expertise & experience in Suspension components, systems, CAE, testing, quality & production launch. 3-5 years minimum managing an engineering team with proven track record & delivery of results. Experience with on-site launch leadership and delivery at supplier sites and Ford Assembly Plants. Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Strong leadership behaviors with good collaborative decision-making skills. Ability to build strong working relationships with all stakeholders including program teams, purchasing, manufacturing, STA & suppliers.

Even better, you may have...

Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.       10 years of experience in Suspension Systems and Component Design. An aptitude for developing people & processes.   Strong understanding of statistical analysis.   Extensive experience & strong TMM working on safety critical systems & components.

In this position...

Act as the business owner with end-to-end responsibility for Suspension Systems and Component Engineering. Lead & ensure successful delivery of all engineering KPIs including Quality, Cost, Weight & Functional Performance (QCWF). Lead the implementation of design/cost/weight efficiencies for load management, attribute performance, and manufacturing through a systemic review of interactions between interfacing components and systems.

What you'll do...

Lead and mentor teams to deliver Low and High Time in Service Warranty Performance, TVM Targets, and Warranty Spend Metrics. Own the design review process for the department & lead design reviews based on Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA). Drive engineering teams towards containment and resolution of issues raised from design reviews, virtual builds, and build events to protect the program’s schedule to prototype build dates, start of production, and ongoing production. Ensure adherence to FMA, DVP&R, Quality History & Prevent Recurrence. Analyze designs during the development process & address any potential failures & error states. Lead and mentor teams to successfully deliver on-time Program milestones with Quality. Interface with all levels of management & outside activities on Suspension Systems matters. Ensure problems are transparent and risks are identified and proactively ensure that risk mitigating actions are ongoing within relevant engineering teams. Guide & oversee training, mentoring & provide consulting to department engineers, supervisors & other interfacing functions. Support Campaign Prevent activities & zero mindset FSA mentality. Support CCRG workstreams for Suspension Systems. Lead deployment of all commodity foundation documents including DFMEAs, SCCAFs, Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, DVP&R & integration manuals with a Zero FSA / Zero Warranty mindset. Intimately know the suppliers & lead supplier selection & development with cross-functional teams; Lead select Commodity Business Plans. Construct & develop simple and complex business cases for various designs & commercial negotiations. Ability to share & present work to cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
