Title and Summary
Manager, Software EngineeringOverviewWe are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our growing team of talented software engineers enabling Financial Institutions in their fight against money laundering and fraud. We craft bespoke services that help our clients gain an understanding of the underlying criminal behaviour that drives financial crime, empowering them to take action.
As part of the application development team, your role will focus on creating and maintaining products across the whole lifecycle, through individual contribution and team leadership.
Role
•\tLead and manage a team of software engineers, providing guidance, and support to help them reach their full potential.
•\tCollaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, scope, and timelines.
•\tMentor team members on microservices design principles, patterns and technologies.
•\tOversee the software development lifecycle, from planning, and design to implementation.
•\tEffectively lead sprint ceremonies, facilitate discussions, prioritize tasks, and drive consensus among team members during planning sessions.
•\tFoster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team, encouraging alternate approaches.
•\tIdentify and address technical debt, and performance bottlenecks, and maintain the stability of our solutions.
•\tEstablish and enforce best practices for offerings, ensuring our solutions' scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
•\tDevelop a complete understanding of end-to-end technical architecture and dependency systems.
•\tEnsure that production code meets high engineering standards i.e. high test coverage, e2e tests.
•\tReview team’s code, identifying errors and improving performance and readability. Drive code design and process trade-off discussions within the team when required.
•\tRegularly update stakeholders and senior management on project status, risks, and opportunities.
•\tEvaluate employee performance, and set expectations and goals for direct reports.
•\tTake personal responsibility for creating and maintaining microservices, primarily in Golang.
•\tIterate design and build to solve bugs, improve performance, and add new features.
•\tEnsure resilience and reliability of services.
•\tReport status and manage risks within your primary application/service.
•\tWork with a large range of stakeholders to collect requirements and prioritise tasks (product manager, project management, analysts) build services (software engineers, testers) and deploy (devops, bizops, product ops).
•\tThe role is hybrid, and the expectation is that you attend the office according to Mastercard policy.

You are experienced in team leadership and project delivery and adept at prioritising your own workload, alongside that of your teams
•\tExperience leading and mentoring a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality solutions
•\tProficiency in software development, methodologies, and best practices.
•\tFundamentally grounded in agile methodologies, specifically SCRUM.
•\tExperience managing multi-stakeholders in an organization.
•\tDemonstrable ability to write high quality Python/Golang and SQL in a production context. You are happy to learn new programming languages and frameworks as necessary.
•\tYou have experience with, and are interested in, contemporary approaches to service design, including the use of containers and container orchestration technologies, streaming data platforms, APIs, and in-memory/NoSQL stores.
•\tExperience in building scalable distributed solutions.
•\tExperience with large volumes of data and high throughput, low latency solutions built on Kafka and Kubernetes.
•\tStrong communication skills both written and verbal are a must.
•\tListening, oral, written, and presentation skills and effective interpersonal skills.
•\tAbility to drive results while being resourceful and tactful within a corporate environment.
•\tKeeps abreast of the evolving technology landscape. Can ask the right questions to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of designs (scalability, latency, security, performance, data integrity, etc.)
•\tWorks with ambiguity and with limited guidance.
•\tYou may have domain knowledge in payments, fraud, anti-money laundering, and machine learning.
•\tYou are comfortable communicating with a range of stakeholders, including subject matter experts, data scientists, software engineers, DevOps and security professionals.
•\tYou have the ability to engage with best practices for code review, version control, and change control, balancing the need for a quality codebase with the unique and particular demands of scale-up stage software engineering.
•\tYou have experience optimising solution performance with a constrained set of technologies.
•\tYou have experience or are keen to engage with productionising machine learning technologies.
