Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Registrations and Licensing, Business Governance and Controls (BG&C), the Manager, Registrations and Licensing will play a critical role in driving larger scale changes to enable an effective and efficient registration and licensing operation that meets regulatory requirements and expectations, aligns with Sun Life Canada’s risk-balanced culture of compliance while delivering on a positive advisor-centric experience.

You will bring an innovative and strategic mindset with deep wealth and/or insurance registrations expertise, enjoy building and enhancing programs and processes and have a passion and experience in leading high performing teams.

What will you do?

Lead a team of up to 10 Registration and Licensing Associates (RLAs) in executing day-to-day registration and licensing applications, filings and submissions.Be the first escalation point for RLAs by providing well informed direction, advice and support on the day-to-day registration and licensing related issues, situations, questions and other matters which may be serious, complex or unique that cannot be handled independently by the RLAsEscalate any unresolved issues on a timely basis to the Director, Registration & Licensing and Compliance, as applicableKeep current on regulatory changes and/or requirements and as required, lead and/or support projects that implement those changes across the organizationBuild and maintain strong relationships with regulators and other relevant business and industry groups, as well as internal partners including District Managers and Regional Vice-Presidents, Compliance, and other key partners.Collaborate with the management team in creating and maintaining current operational documentation for day-to-day functioning of the department. Ensure documentation follows regulatory and audit requirements

What do you need to succeed?

Be the Registrations subject matter expert, ensuring that the team’s work is compliant and meets all regulatory requirements and industry expectations.Manage resource allocations, hiring, evaluating and training staffEstablish and maintain relationships with regulatory and business and control partners to facilitate problem solving and initiate improvements in processesAttract, retain and develop talent’Maintain and enhance controls for contracting and licensing/registration processes and support internal and external audit processesProvide guidance and decisions on complex and exception situations as well as subject matter expertise on projects requiring registration & licensing expertise

What will be nice to have:

University degree (Business) or College certificate5-10 years financial services experience, preferably in the wealth and insurance spaceKnowledge and understanding of the relevant securities and insurance rules, regulations, by-laws, policies and procedures surrounding the licensing, renewal and fee requirements of securities and insurance advisors/agentsKnowledge of the National Registration Database (NRD)Strong communication skillsStrong people leadership skills to manage and develop a diverse team of independent contributorsStrong written and verbal communication skills

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
