The Department of Human Genetics is currently seeking a full time Manager, Programs to work in Miami. The Manager, Programs provides direction, leadership and day to day management of educational and departmental activities and is responsible for the continued growth and maintenance of all graduate medical education programs by assisting the Program Director, and primary oversight of graduate students. Acts for and makes decisions in the Program Director’s absence within prescribed limits of authority. The Manager, Programs will be responsible for overseeing activities and functions of the Interdepartmental Ph.D. Program in Human Genetics and Genomics (HGG) and the Master of Science in Genomic Medicine (MSGM) program to ensure that goals and objectives specified for the programs are accomplished. Works closely with the faculty program director(s) and other assigned faculty in administrative support capacity performing extensive tasks. This role oversees 39 masters’ and 15 Ph.D. students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Develops and independently implements new or revised program goals and objectives.
+ Coordinates activities of program with inter-related activities of other programs, departments or staff to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, specifications and funding limitations.
+ Acts as a main point of contact for project funders, advisors, speakers and participants.
+ Counsels staff, students and others to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, answers to questions and program goals and policy interpretations
+ Develops and facilitates workshops, meetings or conferences with high impact on program and/or participants.
+ Evaluates program effectiveness to develop improved methods. Analyzes results and recommends and/or takes appropriate action.
+ Prepares periodic reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies, such as SACS reporting or external program evaluation.
+ Recruits MSGM program participants, members and volunteers utilizing most appropriate promotional or marketing methods, such as individual letters, brochures or presentations at meetings.
+ Coordinates application and admission activities for the MSGM program.
+ Analyzes and implement the most effective communication options for meeting departmental and education goals. Develops, compiles and writes communications and promotional literature for distribution such as newsletters, brochures or flyers; coordinates process from development through printing and distribution.
+ Creates program handbooks and entries in UM academic bulletin, coordinates scheduling of graduate courses, facilitates curriculum changes
+ Responsible for the management and oversight of appointments, payroll activities, benefits, accreditation requirements, qualifications for board eligibility, performance evaluation system. Processes student registrations, coordinates grade submissions, documents student progress meetings (from Qualifying Exam to Dissertation Defense)
+ Processes all student work assignments in Workday and CaneLink, tuition waivers, payroll (stipend) activities, benefits, reimbursements for student travel and research/fellowship awards. .

+ Organizes annual MSGM student Capstone symposium and bimonthly Capstone journal club and case conferences, compiling student abstracts and managing logistics
+ Coordinates faculty responsibilities, faculty seminar series, student journal clubs, monthly program Steering Committee and Educator’s meetings, annual faculty meetings, and annual HGG Open House.
+ Works closely with program faculty to maintain class schedules, course syllabi and provide course and program materials through Blackboard, Box, Panopto and the website.
+ Acts as liason with the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Office of Undergraduate Medical Education to report on student progress, and to ensure that all established deadlines are met and all policies and procedural guidelines are followed appropriately.
+ Manages course/exam evaluations through SurveyMonkey or UM ETS and summarize results for use in program improvements and faculty promotion and tenure discussions.
+ Creates seminar announcements that are published in e-Update and e-Veritas and disseminate throughout the UM research community. Create program announcement and biographical pamphlet for students defending their dissertation or capstone project.
+ Posts advertisements for Distinguished speakers across the Medical School Campus
+ Ensures that the atrium (or other space) is set up for speakers.
+ Maintains records of student progress toward degree, including minutes of committee meetings, results of examinations, and final defense/presentation of dissertation or Capstone projects.
+ Ensures that PhD students are cleared for graduation by reviewing every year once students have passed their qualifying exam.
+ Update the Graduate Student tracking system in RedCap at the end of each semester.
+ Other duties as assigned.

+ Ability to analyze and evaluate programmatic and administrative activities, make comprehensive studies and evaluations, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, students, and the general public.
+ Ability to express ideas and information, clearly, concisely, verbally and writing.
+ Familiarity with DHRS, Blackboard, Graduate Studies System, RDS, CMS, Panopto.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
+ Bachelor’s degree required.
Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
+ Four years of relevant work experience required.
