**Job Summary**
The Manager, Physician Coding oversees the daily management of all coding functions related to professional fee coding workflow, productivity, and performance, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of coding tasks and other related projects as assigned by the organization. This role involves supervising the department and staff, as well as managing data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure departmental goals are met.
**Essential Functions**
+ Supervises and provides direction for the overall day-to-day activities of the professional fee coding department and the coders responsible for coding professional fee services. This includes monitoring the staff to ensure accurate and timely coding while ensuring the quality, productivity and turnaround time meets the expectations of the department. Ensures the coding workflows are followed and productivity goals are met.
+ Assists Director with the facilitation of the structure, process, oversight and accountability of coding to ensure accuracy as it relates to appropriate and compliant reimbursement of health care services. Assists in development of reasonable productivity measures for coding medical records while balancing quality and timeliness. Promotes recruitment and retention of certified coding staff in coding positions.
+ Educates staff on coding and documentation guidelines acting as a professional subject matter expert to the staff. Disseminates changes in coding rules and monitors changes in laws, regulations and policies that impact documentation, reimbursement and coding. Counsels the coding team on actions required to meet minimum performance requirements. Ensures the productivity and actions of the coding team meet and support the overall operational goals of the department.
+ Selects and develops qualified staff to perform the coding functions by providing guidance and counseling to improve employee performance; takes the appropriate disciplinary actions needed. Assists with performance evaluations, counsels employees in performance improvement, conflict resolution and disciplinary action. Monitors and approves time off for all professional fee coders.
+ Serves as a resource and liaison in the department for coding related topics, issues and questions. Collaborates with other departments/teams, such as revenue cycle management, compliance, operations and quality to ensure effective communication and coordination of coding processes. Communicates opinions and ideas in a nonthreatening and nonjudgmental manner to staff, peers and others.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
+ Associate Degree Health Information Management or related field required
+ Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management or related field preferred
+ 5-7 years Working with physicians offices or clinics working with diagnostic and procedure coding and/or medical billing required
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Posses a vast knowledge of current CPT, ICD and HCPCS coding and reimbursement issues for physician offices and clinics.
+ Strong knowledge of current Evaluation and Management Documentation guidelines.
+ Excellent understanding and comprehension of medical terminology.
+ Strong leadership, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
+ Must have the ability to balance and juggle multiple tasks, projects and requests.
+ Must be able to make sound decisions objectively and follow through.
+ Experience with spreadsheets, Word and PowerPoint presentations.
+ Ability to communicate effectively any issues or weakness with coding and documentation to the clinicians, staff and/or CHS management in a one-on-one or classroom setting.
+ Must be detail oriented and analytical.
+ Able to interact confidently with clinicians, staff, corporate CHS management and/or other CHS affiliated personnel.
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ Certified Coder-AHIMA or AAPC CPC, CCS_P, RHIT or other Nationally recognized coding certifications required
