Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025. Versant is seeking a Standards Manager to oversee primetime coverage across MSNBC and CNBC, coordinating across editorial teams to achieve the best journalism outcomes, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines, and fostering a culture of accuracy, fairness, and transparency in news reporting. Reporting into the Vice President for News Standards, this manager will be part of the Versant News Standards Team and provide support and guidance to editorial teams across cable, digital and audio platforms. The role will have a particular emphasis on planning and coordinating Standards guidance during and in preparation for the weeknight primetime news programming. They will work with editors and producers of primetime shows and coverage to set and maintain editorial and ethical guidelines and safeguard the credibility and integrity of our journalism on those platforms. Responsibilities: + Help maintain the reputation, journalistic integrity and editorial independence of our news organizations. + Work with the senior level editorial team on reviewing reports for accuracy, fairness and adequate sourcing. + Primary relationships will include evening shows and desk editors. + Help establish overall news division-wide standards policies and guidelines. + Provide advice to CNBC and MSNBC journalists (both on air and off) on news standards. + Provide real-time guidance on breaking news stories to ensure coverage is accurate and ethical + Review and offer guidance on sensitive video and images and their suitability for airing/publishing on Versant platforms + Ensure that new and current employees are continually educated on MSNBC and CNBC’s Standards & Practices policies – across all platforms + Manage corrections, retractions, and responses to complaints or challenges to published content + 10+ years working experience within the news industry + Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, History or a related field of study + Prior experience working in a fast-paced digital or television newsroom, along with having worked on major breaking news for a national or global audience, as well as business/financial journalism and investigative journalism + Excellent team player with strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues + Skilled in communicating effectively and successfully across all levels of talent and management + Open and able to adapt to new approaches to content and storytelling + Ability to handle confidential material with the utmost discretion + Solid news and editorial judgment + Must be able to work weekends and evenings + Willing and able to work in New York, NY Desired Qualifications: + Ability to organize and schedule work effectively while meeting deadlines + Proven ability to remain calm in high pressure environment a plus + Excellent multitasker with strong writing and editorial skills + Prior experience in network television management a plus + Self-starter; able to work independently and proactively + Open to learning and using new technology Additional Job Requirements: + Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
