What we want The Laboratory Manager, under direction, coordinates the distribution, oversight, and maintenance of supplies and equipment in departmental teaching laboratories. Prepares specifications, oversees laboratory set-ups, and ensures efficient operations of demonstrations and/or equipment in teaching laboratories. Qualifications Required Education + Bachelor’s degree in in nursing, life sciences, medicine, or related field + Five years of related experience in laboratory management. Preferred Qualifications + Master’s degree in nursing, life sciences, medicine, or related field + Experience in clinical research, with demonstrated leadership and management skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications. + Ability to identify, assess, and solve problems. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding. + Knowledge of scientific equipment associated with genetics, microbiology, chemistry, and life sciences. + Knowledge of proper preparation, handling, and disposal of biologicals, chemicals, and glassware. + In-depth knowledge of clinical research principles, regulations, and best practices. Responsibilities Laboratory Operations and Resource Management + Equip teaching and research labs with instruments, disposable supplies, and chemicals. + Manage inventory systems for equipment, chemicals, and consumables. + Place, receive, and document supply orders; restock as needed. + Ensure proper organization of stockrooms and lab spaces. + Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment. + Oversee safe and compliant disposal of laboratory waste. + Support special projects and ensure operational efficiency across labs. Supervision, Training, and Compliance + Supervise student workers and laboratory staff; assign duties and manage schedules. + Train students and staff on the proper and safe use of lab instrumentation. + Maintain up-to-date training certifications in lab safety procedures. + Develop and update laboratory manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). + Implement and oversee quality assurance programs and record control systems. + Ensure all lab activities comply with Federal, State, and Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies and regulations. + Participate in departmental and lab-related meetings to address operations and compliance matters. Research Oversight and Quality Assurance + Lead planning, coordination, and execution of research projects and clinical trials. + Ensure adherence to research protocols, timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements (FDA, IRB, etc.). + Oversee subject recruitment and enrollment for clinical studies. + Manage data collection, reporting, and ensure data accuracy and integrity. + Allocate and manage research resources including staff, equipment, and supplies. + Support budget development and maintain responsible financial oversight. + Foster collaboration and communication with investigators, sponsors, and stakeholders. + Identify and implement process improvements to optimize research and operational efficiency.
