We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Protection (Backup and Recovery) Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, developing, implementing, and managing backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability. This role requires a deep understanding of various backup technologies and tools, as well as advanced knowledge of data protection strategies across cloud platforms.
What should you have :
Design, develop, and maintain advanced backup and recovery solutions using tools such as Commvault, AWS Backup, Azure backups, PPDM
Develop and implement automated solutions for backup and recovery processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual intervention
Create and manage self-service features for customers to facilitate their own backup and recovery tasks, improving user experience and operational efficiency
Lead the optimisation of backup processes, ensuring data is backed up according to established schedules and policies
Monitor and troubleshoot complex backup and recovery operations, addressing issues proactively and providing expert guidance
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement comprehensive data protection strategies
Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery processes to ensure effectiveness, reliability, and compliance with industry standards
work with product manager to define the product roadmap and own/run/participate in agile ceremonies
Maintain detailed documentation of backup configurations, processes, and procedures
Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to data protection and recovery, and provide thought leadership within the organization.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Relevant certifications (e.g., Commvault Certified Expert) are highly desirable
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in backup and recovery engineering or a related field, with a focus on senior-level responsibilities
Proven experience with backup solutions such as Commvault, AWS backups, Azure backups, PPDM, RMAN, BRTools and familiarity with Cohesity, Rubrik, and others
Extensive experience with automation tools, specifically Ansible Tower, for backup and recovery processes
Familiarity with Hyperscale 1.5 and Hyperscale X architectures.
Experience with Data Protection as a Service (DPA) solutions
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS and Azure, for backup and recovery solutions
In-depth experience with Dell Data Domain storage systems
Skills:
Strong understanding of backup and recovery methodologies and best practices, with the ability to apply this knowledge to complex scenarios
Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to enhance backup processes and develop automated solutions
Advanced knowledge of storage technologies and architectures, including Dell Data Domain
Familiarity with self-service portal tools and frameworks for customer interaction
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders
Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead projects independently
In-depth knowledge of data protection regulations and compliance requirements
Extensive experience with disaster recovery planning and execution
Experience with different operating systems (e.g., windows servers, RHEL) and container solutions (e.g., Kubernetes)
Familiarity with cloud-based backup solutions and hybrid environments
Strong analytical skills to assess backup performance and identify areas for improvement
Experience with Dell Data Domain storage systems.
