The Enterprise Risk Management & Risk Oversight (ERM&RO) organization within Global Risk and Compliance (a Second Line of Defense function) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all business units, functions, processes, and geographies at American Express.
The ERM Framework, Governance and Reporting team within ERM&RO provides an independent view of risks faced by American Express and is responsible for aggregating the risk profile for the Company. The team is focused on key risk management activities, including but not limited to, risk identification and assessment, risk appetite, effective challenge, and committee governance and reporting.
These responsibilities span the AXP Bank Holding Company as well as the subsidiary US Bank (American Express National Bank).
The Manager of US Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for independent risk management of key risk areas across the Company. Effective independent risk management is achieved by identifying, measuring, monitoring, or controlling risk at the aggregate, individual or initiative level Risks. This is supported by an organizational reporting structure which enables independent risk management to maintain its independence from front line units.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Maintain a deep understanding of various Interagency Supervisory Guidance on Risk Management, including, but not limited to: OCC Heightened Standards, Internal Control booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook, Corporate and Risk Governance booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook, Large bank Supervision booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook. Are able to integrate regulatory expectations into the enterprise risk management framework to ensure compliance with risk management programs and practices. Identify, monitor, and report on the effectiveness of risk programs to internal and external stakeholders, including Senior Management, Audit, the Boards of Directors, and Regulators. Assist with the design and execution of frameworks and processes for measurement, approving, monitoring and management of risks, while providing effective challenge. Provide ongoing monitoring of Company-wide adherence to risk limits and risk escalations, and timely and disciplined escalations of risks. Establish and maintain appropriate governance and management policies for all areas of risks. Develop the Enterprise Risk Management framework, standards, and processes, ensuring implementation with the Enterprise and Bank-wide operational Risk policies and maintaining a safe and sound control environment.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field; advanced degree required. 3-5 years of experience in enterprise risk management, or similar risk management discipline, within the financial services industry. Strong understanding of financial markets, products, and regulatory requirements impacting risk management. Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-wide risk management frameworks and methodologies. Excellent analytical, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams. Professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, or CRM are highly desirable.Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
