**Job Description**
Join Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in Mebane as our Manager, Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS)! This is an outstanding opportunity to craft and develop a startup facility into a world-class operation with a strong, safety-first culture.
**Responsibilities**
Compliance Management:
+ Establish and maintain flawless policies, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate EHS regulations.
+ Ensure routine environmental reports and inspections are completed and submitted on time (Tier 2).
+ Conduct periodic compliance audits and management system assessments to identify potential hazards, program deficiencies, and liabilities.
**Certification and Management Systems:**
+ Establish, acquire, and maintain the site’s ISO 14001 Certification.
+ Further develop and support the site's EHS Management System.
**Incident and Risk Management:**
+ Assist in investigating serious accidents and near-miss incidents.
+ Manage the Intelex database system for injury reporting, OSHA logs, and the workers compensation program.
+ Review and analyze accident data to identify trends requiring additional focus.
+ Present control and corrective action recommendations to management through a management review process.
**Training and Technical Support:**
+ Analyze, design, develop, and conduct appropriate training programs to assist management with EHS responsibilities.
+ Serve as a technical resource in complex areas of EHS compliance, risk management, machine safety, hazardous materials/waste, workers compensation, and ergonomics.
**Reporting and Continuous Improvement:**
+ Report to Group, Division, and Corporate Risk Management on the status of site metrics, environmental performance, and legal and regulatory inspections/audits.
+ Use LEAN manufacturing methodology and tools (Kaizen events, process mapping, benchmarking, and root cause analysis) to drive workplace safety improvement. Promote the connection between LEAN initiatives and safety programs.
**Professional Development:**
+ Stay ahead of industry developments through professional associations (e.g., ASSP), trade publications, and attendance at trade conventions, corporate seminars, workshops, and meetings.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or related field.
+ 5-8 years of experience in EHS or risk management.
+ Ability to develop and meet deadlines and budgets.
+ Effective leadership and personnel management skills.
+ Ability to develop and implement procedures and programs.
+ Proficiency in IT skills including word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and electronic communication.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master’s Degree or equivalent experience and/or professional certifications (CHMM, CEP, CSP, CIH) are encouraged but not required.
+ LEAN Manufacturing experience.
+ ISO 14001 experience.
