Manager, Communications

The SEA division is the fastest growing division in the Asia Pacific region and a collection of extremely dynamic and diverse markets. The 10 markets that make up the division encompass highly developed economies at one end of the spectrum to extremely fast-growing economies on the other end.

The Southeast Asia Communications function serves as a center of excellence for communications for Southeast Asia, delivering strategic and impactful communications programs across the division.

Reporting to the Communications Director, Southeast Asia, the Communications Manager will join a diverse and dynamic team in shaping communications across Southeast Asia, and working closely with marketing leads across the division to co-drive communications efforts in the markets.

This role will also work closely with and support the Communications Director in all Southeast Asia wide communications initiatives, including strategy development and execution, content development, external communications and media relations, internal communications, executive communications and managing our network of external communications agencies.

The Communications Manager will also work actively across the various business lines and country teams in Southeast Asia, including senior stakeholders in the division, and collaborate with Asia Pacific regional teams to support Mastercard’s business objectives in each market and across the division.

Role and Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning
•\tWorking with the Communications Director, develop a comprehensive communications strategy that increases share-of-voice and drives thought leadership for Mastercard in key strategic areas.
•\tThis includes developing key narratives that are compelling, distinct and aligned with business priorities, as well as executing the communications plan.
•\tEnsure that the communications framework and key messages are rolled out to all markets within the division

In-Market Communications
•\tPartner with in-market leads in developing market-specific communications plans and key messages, while ensuring that this plan aligns with the overall divisional communications strategy and supports the market’s business objectives.
•\tWork closely with in-market teams to support them in their communications efforts and execution, including guiding them on in-market activations for local product launches or partnerships
•\tSupport marketing leads in integrated campaigns where necessary

Content Development
•\tDevelop quality content that is impactful, conveys Mastercard’s values and messages in a consistent tone, and differentiates Mastercard from its competitors. These include press releases, byline articles, commentaries, executive speeches and talking points, videos, social media content, and internal articles.
•\tDevelop thought leadership content to profile our leadership team across multiple channels (earned, owned and paid), and identify appropriate opportunities to position Mastercard’s spokespeople as thought leaders, e.g. speaking opportunities

Media Engagement
•\tIdentify and secure media opportunities, such as interviews, byline and articles in local and regional media.
•\tProvide strategic advice to business teams and spokespeople on media approach and outreach

Agency Management
•\tManage our network of external communications agencies and vendors, working closely with these partners and guiding them to ensure that deliverables are tracking to plan.

Internal Communications
•\tDrive internal communications approach and execution to create a positive internal culture within the division, encouraging knowledge sharing and celebrating successes.

Issues and Crisis Communications
•\tSupport the SEA Communications Director and Regional Communications Team in managing issues as and when they arise

Liaison with Global and Regional Communications Teams
•\tEnsure alignment and coordination of communication programs with global and regional communications teams


All About You

•\tMinimum 8 years’ experience in corporate communications, media relations, public relations (either in-house or agency)
•\tStrong command of English – both written and spoken
•\tStrong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create compelling content that resonates with the intended target audience.
•\tExperience in developing and executing a multi-channel communications approach, across earned, owned and paid channels.
•\tCreativity and ability to come up with innovative storytelling, and fresh/creative angles to pitch a story.
•\tExperience in media relations with a good track record of successfully pitching and securing media coverage, as well as strong media relationships with business, trade and national media across Southeast Asia.
•\tExperience engaging with senior stakeholders, with the ability to convince and influence internal stakeholders
•\tExperience in issues and crisis management
•\tRegional and/or in-market experience in key Southeast Asia countries
•\tStrong understanding of the financial services, fintech, digital or technology sector
•\tDetail oriented, structured and organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
•\tProactive with a “can-do” attitude
•\tAbility to work with ambiguity
•\tA flexible thinker who can move quickly from strategy to execution in a fast-paced environment.
•\tA collaborative team player who is able to work independently
•\tThis role is best suited to someone who combines strategic thinking with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach to execution.
