Manager, Backend Developer

Role Overview

As part of our strategic technology roadmap, we are building a resilient, scalable, and secure integration backbone that powers our enterprise applications and client-facing platforms.

This Senior Backend Developer will be a key engineering leader on the ground, responsible for translating architecture blueprints into high-performance services, ensuring API excellence, and driving automation across our AWS and MuleSoft ecosystem.

You will be part of a high-impact team that directly influences time-to-market, cost optimization, and digital transformation outcomes.

Key Responsibilities 

Design & build microservices in Java/Spring Boot (RESTful APIs, asynchronous messaging, resilient patterns, OpenAPI/Swagger). 

Integrate via MuleSoft Anypoint: RAML/API specs, API Manager policies, DataWeave mappings, reusable connectors, and CloudHub deployments. 

Own AWS workloads: containerize with Docker, deploy to ECS/EKS or Lambda; use API Gateway/ALB, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, RDS/Aurora/DynamoDB, S3, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, X-Ray. 

CI/CD with GitHub Actions: multi-stage pipelines (build/test/scan/package), Docker image build & push (ECR), environment promotion with approvals, infra deploy hooks (IaC). 

Quality & security: unit/integration tests, contract tests, performance testing; SAST/DAST/dependency scans; least-privilege IAM; secrets management. 

Observability: structured logging, metrics, tracing (OpenTelemetry), SLOs/alerts, runbooks. 

Performance: profile services, tune databases/caches, right-size compute, optimize CloudHub/EKS/ECS utilization. 

Collaboration: partner with product/architecture, review PRs, mentor engineers, contribute to standards and API governance. 

Operations: participate in incident response and post-mortems; drive root-cause fixes and reliability improvements. 

Familiarity with software architecture and solution design, especially in cloud environments and microservices and integration methods. 

 

Development & Integration Support 

Build and maintain Java Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs under senior developer guidance. 

Assist in developing MuleSoft integration flows (RAML, DataWeave transformations, API Manager configurations). 

Implement backend services on AWS (S3, RDS/DynamoDB,Redshift Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS). 

 

CI/CD & Quality Practices 

Work with GitHub Actions to build/test/deploy backend components in a controlled CI/CD environment. 

Write and maintain unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality. 

Follow secure coding practices and participate in code reviews. 

 

Collaboration & Learning 

Partner with senior developers, QA, and DevOps to ensure smooth delivery. 

Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and backlog grooming. 

Learn enterprise-grade API governance, performance monitoring, and cost optimization best practices. 

 

Qualifications 

3+ years in backend engineering with Java 11+ and Spring Boot. 

Strong microservices architecture (API versioning, idempotency, retries/circuit-breakers, saga/outbox patterns). 

Hands-on MuleSoft (Mule 4/Anypoint): publishing/consuming APIs, policies, DataWeave, Exchange assets, CloudHub operations. 

Production experience on AWS (ECS/EKS or Lambda) and core services (API Gateway, SQS/SNS, RDS/Aurora or DynamoDB, CloudWatch). 

GitHub Actions expertise: reusable workflows, environments, secrets, artifact/versioning strategy. 

Proficiency with Docker, Relational DBs (SQL, schema design, migrations), and testing (JUnit/Testcontainers/contract tests). 

Solid grasp of security (OAuth2/OIDC, token flows, mTLS, OWASP Top 10) and networking (VPC, subnets, NACLs, security groups). 

Excellent problem solving, code review, and communication skills.

Incident reduction: Measurable drop in P1/P2 incidents. 

Cost efficiency: Optimized AWS and MuleSoft operational spend without performance trade-offs.
