Manager, Accounting
What you’ll do Reporting to the Director, Finance at CT REIT, you will be responsible for managing accounting operations, including overseeing property accounting, and lease administration. You will provide leadership and development to a team of designated accountants and analysts with the mandate of optimizing and improving business processes and related internal controls. You will oversee the property accounting department, coordinate property management accounting for CT REIT’s leases. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain a broad understanding of CT REIT, work closely with the REIT leadership team, and collaborate across the organization. - Manage and develop a team of three direct reports, including the Supervisor of Property Accounting, and two analysts. - Work with the team to track key projects and initiatives and collaborate with other areas in Finance and the business to ensure accurate project accounting and development of key metrics. - Undertake and oversee ad hoc projects as required by the Director, Finance. Property Accounting - Review accounting work performed by the team with a focus on property management accounting for the REIT’s leases. - Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting as well as other financial information required by Property Managers and Senior Management. - Review and approve property accounting budgets and reforecast ensuring accuracy and timely delivery; review variance analysis of actuals to budget and reforecast on a monthly/quarterly basis. - Review and manage year-end CAM reconciliations; ensure adherence to deadlines and accuracy. - Ensure all financial reporting procedures are in accordance with agreed-upon or mandated schedules and specific customized approaches. - Maintain effective control over the reasonability, accuracy, and completeness of the monthly accounting close through detailed understanding and process ownership of core operational systems. - Utilize AI tools to automate reporting and processes. Lease Administration - Review key lease information and updates to lease data entered into Yardi Voyager, including but not limited to lease provisions, options and critical dates, property information, business agreements, legal agreements, financial obligations, and other terms and conditions. - Oversee document controls, including updating and maintaining precedent documents related to lease agreements. - Interpret lease clauses to extract required and pertinent information. - Oversee the preparation and distribution of lease documentation packages for approval and execution. - Ensure that all new leases and Lease Amending Agreements are accurately updated in Yardi system. People/Talent Development - Manage and develop staff in their various roles. - Support the development of staff and transition knowledge to the team. - Lead by example and exhibit CT REIT core values. - Focus on talent development and promote CT REIT culture in order to maintain high employee engagement. What you bring - Accounting designation (e.g., CPA) - 7+ years of real estate experience working in Accounting, FP&A or a related Finance role with demonstrated career progression - Extensive REIT or Real Estate experience - Excellent analytical, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills - Strong leadership and motivational skills - Experience managing and developing staff - Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills - Knowledge of PowerBI, Copilot, and Power Automate considered an asset. - Ability to perform in a fast-paced and dynamic environment #LI-UH1 About Us CT REIT is an unincorporated, closed-end real estate investment trust formed to own income-producing commercial properties located primarily in Canada.
