Job Title: Utility Designer

Job Description

Join a dynamic engineering team dedicated to designing power distribution infrastructure, ensuring quality, time, and budget constraints are met. This role involves working on a long-term project supporting Consumers Energy and involves Make Ready and Joint Use work, which prepares existing poles for shared infrastructure use.

ResponsibilitiesExecute work orders for the design of power distribution infrastructure while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints.Perform end-to-end Make-Ready/Joint-use, and general distribution design, applying established design guidelines, processes, and procedures.Conduct pole loading analysis, field data review, and data entry to complete design and construction prints.Utilize Open Utilities, a Microstation/Autocad-based design software, and Poleforman software for pole analysis.Develop detailed design prints using CAD software, ensuring compliance with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) for spacing and clearance.Essential SkillsExperience with Microstation and Autocad for design work.Knowledge of utility design, distribution, LVD (low voltage distribution), Make Ready, and Joint Use.Understanding of utility infrastructure, pole installation, clearances, transformers, distribution lines, and ESRI or ArcGIS software mapping tools.Additional Skills & QualificationsAssociates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.Direct experience in utility, distribution, Make Ready, or Joint Use work.Entry-level candidates with a degree in engineering or design are encouraged to apply.Work Environment

The role begins with a nine-month contract, transitioning to direct hire, requiring daily reporting to the office in Livonia. Upon demonstrating consistent quality, there is the possibility of a hybrid work schedule. The team is preparing to move into a state-of-the-art facility in Northville, designed to accommodate planned growth. This environment fosters opportunities for advancement into leadership or project management roles for those with proven performance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr.
