Job Summary
The Maintenance Superintendent leads the Maintenance department by directing plant maintenance processes and overseeing the recruitment and training of maintenance personnel.
Essential Duties
Environment, Health, and Safety
• Manage and administrate the plant Lockout/Tagout and Confined Space programs
• Ensure that all safety work orders and projects assigned to Maintenance are given high priority and completed in a timely manner
• Foster active attendance and participation in monthly EH&S committee meetings from all levels of the Maintenance team
• Ensure all applicable SOPs and JSAs are updated with all process and/or equipment changes
• Ensure proper reporting of all safety and environmental incidents within the Maintenance department per GAF and OSHA policy
• Conduct a root cause analysis, publish an investigation report, and track action items for each reported incident within the Maintenance department
• Ensure the Maintenance department completes all OSHA and company-required safety training
• Ensure that outside contractors comply with plant safety rules and regulations
• Conduct routine safety observations of Maintenance activity and provide coaching as necessary
• Ensure that needed job-specific safety equipment is made available and properly used as applicable
• Routinely review safety metrics, inspection results, and incident reports with the Maintenance team
Quality
• Proactively attack all process and equipment concerns as they relate to sheet construction
• Support all corporate quality initiatives and new product development
• Identify and eliminate all repeating equipment-related quality issues based on daily audit reports
• Foster full engagement, continuous improvement, and further education with respect to quality within the Maintenance department
Operational Metrics
• Improve machine reliability through the administration of effective preventive and predictive maintenance programs
• Identify, develop, and execute strategies for improving Maintenance efficiency and cost effectiveness
• Identify, analyze, and eliminate common-cause lost time and scrap events (both process and equipment related)
• Manage the Maintenance overhead expense spending budget
• Use business acumen to manage timing of expenditures while sustaining operations
• Regularly forecast departmental spending versus budget
• Communicate local financial strategy to promote good stewardship of plant resources
• Manage the Storeroom function to ensure timely parts delivery, inventory cost control, inventory accuracy, and CMMS system accuracy
• Oversee the effective planning, scheduling, and coordination of all Maintenance work
Process Improvement
• Actively seek out and eliminate sources of process variation to deliver a more uniform product to the customer
• Develop and leverage information systems for data-driven decision making
• Utilize analytical troubleshooting tools to identify and eliminate common causes of process variation and machine upsets
• Support corporate efforts to optimize product construction and conversion costs
• Utilize the MOC and PCN processes to document all machine and process changes
Capital Management
• Scope and develop capital needs for the Maintenance department
• Support and/or execute capital projects for on-time and under-budget completion
• Utilize the MOC and PCN processes to ensure that all Maintenance needs are met prior to project transfer of ownership from Engineering
Organizational Development
• Develop individual Maintenance team members’ capabilities to meet growth needs and improve plant performance
• Hold front-line supervisors accountable for enforcing established policies and procedures
• Identify departmental weaknesses and develop corresponding strategies for strengthening
• Develop, administer, and optimize an effective training program that prepares both existing employees and new hires for their current and future job requirements
• Assist in the recruitment, identification, and hiring of new Maintenance team members as necessary
• Maintain effective working relationships with the local Collective Bargaining Unit and aid in the successful renewal of the Collective Bargaining Agreement prior to contract expiration Develop and maintain Maintenance employee work schedules
