Duties Description • Assist the Motor Equipment Manager 1 in the planning, organizing and maintenance of the Buffalo Division Equipment Management Department. • Oversee the Service & Repair Mechanics in assigning repairs and PM’s of all equipment at Division and Section garages. • Supervise the tools, parts, and inventory of the EM shops in the Division. • Ensure adequate parts and supplies are on hand for the upcoming seasons. • Ensure labor times match work performed and resolve issues when they are not in line. • Manage seasonal workloads, in-service preps, and the preventative maintenance program to keep fleet uptime to a maximum. • Evaluate and recommend repairs or replacement of tools and equipment to Service & Repair Mechanics as needed. • Fill in for Motor Equipment Manager 1 and assume all responsibilities thereof, when needed. • Work with customers to verify their needs and to transition from season to season in timely manner to ensure fleet uptime to meet the needs of the customer.
Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service allocated to as a Maintenance Supervisor 2 (Motor Equipment) Grade 19 and eligible for transfer per NYS Civil Service Law. Or Provisional Appointment Pending Examination: Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment) and Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1. Candidates interested in provisional appointment will be required to take the New York State Department of Civil Service exam for this position. In order to be eligible for the NCP, candidates must meet the following qualifications: Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment) and Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1. NY HELPS Qualifications: Two years of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
