Position Description
The Maintenance & Repair Worker Sr. - Carpentry is a full time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department. This position performs variety of skilled work involved in carpentry work building, maintaining, altering and repairing buildings, furniture and related items. This position requires the incumbent to be physically fit and able to walk, climb, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, crawl and climb ladders.

Typical Duties
+ Prepare work on wood and related surfaces.
+ Build and repair furniture and cabinets.
+ Repair or replace roofs, floors, decking or walls.
+ Install ceramic and other varieties of tile.
+ Construct sub-floors, rafters and wall frames for new and existing structures.
+ Install insulation and wall coverings.
+ Assist in the construction of signage.
+ Assist in painting, varnishing, sealing and epoxying various materials and surfaces.
+ Follow and execute direction given by supervisor/leadman.
+ Demonstrate initiative at job sites.
+ Meet specified deadlines and complete all the assigned work given by the supervisor.
+ Follow all safety and precautionary measures while operating power tools and other equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Eighth Grade Education and one (1) year of verifiable professional carpentry experience.
LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of tools and methods used in carpentry
+ Knowledge of safety regulations
+ Experience operating power and hand tools safely
+ Experience in reading and interpreting directions and estimate materials and labor
