Job Summary

The Maintenance/Operations/Railcar Mechanics conduct job tasks in a safe, compliant manner. They perform essential duties associated with coal transloading, facility and railcar maintenance. This also includes operation of associated equipment: dozers, forklifts, mobile equipment, and testing equipment for railcar inspection. 

Job Description

What you'll do:

Attend and participate in job safety assessments.Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment prescribed for each job task.Lift, carry, and position material weighing up to 50 pounds.Perform railcar maintenance task including but not limited to: Inspections, replace wheel sets, replace brake assemblies, repair/replace safety appliances according to AAR and FRA rules and guidelines.Perform operations job duties including but not limited to deckhand duties for barge handling, operation of heavy equipment to manage coal pile, perform task associated with dumping railcars and loading barges.Walk conveyor equipment and monitor operations.Operate plant equipment to related to fire suppression, dust suppression and collection.Lifting and riggingAssist maintenance crews with facility maintenance task.Assist in training of others.

What we're looking for:

Education:

High school diploma and/or GED equivalency.

Experience:

Two years of welding and cutting experience; thorough knowledge of equipment, clearance procedures; rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to rail car maintenance work.

Other requirements:

This job requires "recommended" test results from HireVue Building Tech and Other Technician-Related Roles Virtual Job Tryout.  This assessment is completed online, is untimed, and typically takes about 45 minutes to complete. Licenses/certifications:

A valid state driver’s license is required.Welding and Cutting Certificate / Degree from an accredited college or equivalent related experience for electric arc welding and oxyacetylene preferred.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to learn to make and read complex drawings and sketches.Must have thorough working knowledge of equipment, clearance procedure, rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to rail car maintenance work.Must have the ability and skill to read, interpret, and work from complex prints and specifications.Must demonstrate the skill and ability in all phases of diagnosing, working and repairing rail cars, arc welding, etc.Must have a thorough knowledge of AAR-FRA rules and guidelines concerning inspection, repairs, use of AAR gauges and calibration instruments.Work effectively with other employees and contractors.

$38.41-38.41 USD

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
