Locksmith Duties:
Performs journey-level locksmith duties in the installation, repair and maintenance of locks and related parts; maintain related records; cuts new, replacement or duplicates keys as required; re-keys and re-combinates locks; maintains master key systems; maintains automated records and security of duplicate keys; re-pins new and existing padlocks and cylinders to the master key system; troubleshoots and maintains software programs for card access; calibrates related systems as necessary; alter lock combinations as requested; minor repairs to safes and vaults; repairs, opens and removes locks; disassembles locks; clears keyways of obstructions; repairs, replaces and alters worn tumblers, springs and other parts; repairs, replaces and maintains a variety of door closures, panic bar hardware, door holders and hinges; install latches and deadbolts.
Shop Duties:
Collaborates with the Architectural hardware consultant to determine District hardware specifications; determines material, equipment and staffing needs for projects and monitors work in progress; assists management by verifying that completed locksmith contract work meets requirements and specifications, recommends purchase of selected parts, materials and equipment; prepares and maintains work orders, records, and reports related to work performed; communicates with administrators, skilled maintenance personnel, contractors and others concerning construction, maintenance and repair issues; works from verbal and written instructions, blueprints, sketches and work orders; orders and stocks an adequate supply of parts and materials; operates a variety of equipment, tools and machines such as drill presses, grinders, key cutters, keying machines, saws, locksmith picks and hand tools; drives a vehicle to assigned sites to conduct work; responds to emergency and non-emergency calls as needed; responsible for assigned vehicle and shop; estimates labor, time and material costs; monitors inventory levels of supplies, materials and equipment; orders, receives and oversees the storage of supplies, materials and equipment and performs related duties as assigned.
Other Related Duties:
May assist in other maintenance areas by performing unskilled and semi-skilled duties.

Education & Training:
Graduation from high school supplemented by completion of a locksmith apprenticeship program; and
Experience:
Two years of journey-level locksmith experience.
Licenses And Other Requirements:
Possession of a valid, appropriate California driver’s license at time of appointment, and throughout employment in a position in this classification.
Physical Demands:
Employees in this classification stand, walk, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. (up to 100 lbs. with assistance); climb ladders and stairs; maintain balance; push, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, and bend repeatedly; repetitively use fingers, wrists, and hands while twisting or applying pressure; simultaneously use both arms, legs, and hands; reach overhead; have rapid mental and muscular coordination; hear normal voice conversation; speak clearly; have depth perception and color vision, distinguish shades, see small details and long distances; sit for extended periods of time; operate a vehicle; use a computer, telephone, and radio. All employees must be able to comply with work place safety and regulatory requirements, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and those of any other competent authority.
Work Environment:
Employees in this classification work both inside and outside, in changing temperatures, including temperatures below 50° and over 90°, dry atmospheric conditions, poorly ventilated areas, inadequate lighting, wet or damp areas, confined spaces, at heights using ladders or scaffolding, with electrical hazards and dangerous machinery with moving parts, sharp objects, fumes, moderate to high concentrations of silica or allergenic dust, lead, asbestos, gases, chemicals, odors, toxic materials, explosive substances, loud noises, vibrations, hands in water, exposure to minor contagious illnesses (cold, flu, etc.), exposure to severe contagious illnesses (tuberculosis, measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis, etc.), moving vehicles, in direct contact with the public, students, and District personnel, and in the absence of direct supervision.
