**Maintenance Lead Technician** **Classification** Non-exempt **JOB DESCRIPTION** **Summary** The primary role of the Industrial Lead Technician is to continuously improve the reliability, efficiency, and utilization of plant electrical, electronic, and computerized control systems. This is accomplished by utilizing electrical and mechanical expertise in the precise design, installation, programming, maintenance, and repair of plant systems and equipment followed by concise and accurate documentation of all activities and observations. **Essential Functions** Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The incumbent will be required to work in conditions typically found within a food processing environment. 1. Coordinates and supervises the activities of personnel involved works closely with all plant personnel to support improved electrical, electronic, and computerized control system reliability as well as efficient and cost-effective use of plant resources. 2. Supports the improvement of asset reliability 3. Requires excellent technical writing and verbal communications skills and the ability to read and work from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical manuals, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and control schematics. 4. This includes wide temperature ranges (-20º F to 100º F), various elevations (ground floor, work platforms, ladders, and manlifts), and various floor conditions (dry to wet and slippery). Requires light to heavy lifting typical of maintenance activities. 5. Apply industrial maintenance skills and knowledge to design, install, program, operate, maintain, and repair plant electrical, electronic, and computerized control systems. For example, the industrial lead technician will maintain and share expert knowledge of maintenance and operation methods of plant electrical, electronic, and computerized control systems. He/she will utilize training, technical expertise, and reliability methods to troubleshoot and formulate solutions to asset and process related deficiencies. The incumbent must be capable of disassembly and reassembly of equipment in order to repair, replace, adjust, clean, lubricate, calibrate and align equipment components. This work also includes the installation and programming of programmable logic controllers (PLCs). 6. Monitor and record system performance and adjust to assure the safe and efficient operation of plant electrical, electronic, and computerized control systems. For example, the industrial lead technician monitors and adjusts equipment controls such that process efficiencies are maximized while assuring uptime of all plant systems. He/she will observe and interpret readings from gauges, meters, charts and software registering various aspects of the control systems to ensure that they are operating properly. 1. Initiate and perform condition monitoring tasks including preventive and predictive maintenance. For example, the industrial lead technician utilizes condition monitoring technologies (such as motor circuit analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasonic analysis, etc.) to support the continued improvement of plant electrical equipment reliability. He/she evaluates and recommends detailed instructions required to perform the condition monitoring tasks. The incumbent then summarizes the data collected and makes recommendations for equipment and process improvement based on the data collected. 1. Troubleshoot equipment failures to ascertain possible failure modes and participate with operations, plant engineering, suppliers, and other associates to improve equipment reliability. For example, the industrial lead technician observes, tests, and evaluates equipment operation to diagnose malfunctions. He/she uses industrial controls expertise, analytical troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis to recommend and implement corrective system improvements. This will include troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human machine interfaces (HMIs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), personal computers, and manufacturer’s established design software. 1. Utilize the company’s Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS) and supports its use as a key management information tool. For example, the industrial lead technician will initiate detailed work requests to troubleshoot, repair, and modify plant control and electrical equipment and then document all repairs and maintenance performed. 1. Recommend, develop, and implement system modifications to improve equipment operations and provide for attainment of plant and department goals. For example, the industrial lead technician continuously reviews each existing electrical preventive maintenance task. He/she recommends additions, improvements, changes to the frequency of, or deletion of, task instructions as needed to increase the overall effectiveness of the preventive maintenance program. This will include drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other maintenance procedures. 1. Provide direction and training for less skilled maintenance personnel and machine operators. For example, the industrial lead technician will teach and lead less trained technicians and operators in the operation, proactive maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant electrical, electronic, and computerized control systems. 1. The employee may be required to work in congested areas and must use caution while operating equipment through tight spaces. **Physical Demands** The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Requires light to heavy lifting typical of maintenance activities. The employee must often lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Frequent use/motion of hands, wrists and arms are required The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or bend. **Position Type/Expected Hours of Work** This is a full-time position. 40+ hours per week. Hours of work: Monday through Friday, start and finish time varies depending on workload. 10 – 12 hour work days are common. Weekends and overtime hours are often required. Schedule is subject to change with or without advance notice. **Required Education and Experience** 1. High School diploma or GED. **Preferred Education and Experience** 1. Previous experience in maintenance or related field 2. An associate degree in industrial Electronics or U.S. Department of Labor approved journeyman certificate. 3. Technical experience designing, programming, operating and maintaining industrial control systems. **Additional Eligibility Qualifications** 1.
