Maintenance Working Lead - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility
What this job involves
The Maintenance Working Lead is a hands-on leadership position that directly participates in maintenance activities while overseeing operations within our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role combines active technical work with team leadership responsibilities, ensuring equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. As a working lead, you will both perform maintenance tasks and supervise a team of maintenance technicians in a fast-paced environment.
The Maintenance Working Lead plays a critical dual role—contributing directly to maintenance activities while simultaneously providing leadership and supervision to ensure our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Working Technical Role

Balance personal maintenance workload with supervisory responsibilitiesDirect daily maintenance operations including scheduling, prioritizing work orders, and allocating resources effectivelyOversee preventive maintenance programs for pharmaceutical equipment, building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural componentsCoordinate and prioritize reactive maintenance requests and emergency repairsManage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, spare parts and equipment to prevent production delaysDevelop and implement maintenance strategies to improve efficiency and reduce downtimeOversee the maintenance and repair of building automation systemsProject Management
Plan and coordinate maintenance projects, including renovations and system upgradesPersonally participate in critical project implementation phasesManage relationships with contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance servicesMonitor project progress and ensure timely completion within budget constraintsPrepare reports on project status, maintenance activities, and key performance indicatorsSafety and Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with FDA, cGMP, and other regulatory requirementsConduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as neededMaintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and certifications in accordance with regulatory standardsDevelop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance tasksLead safety training sessions and promote a safety-first culture within the maintenance teamParticipate in validation activities for new or modified equipmentWork Environment
Must be able to work in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, heat, and chemicalsMay require working in cleanroom environments following appropriate gowning and contamination control proceduresPosition requires standing, walking, and performing physical maintenance activities as a regular part of daily responsibilitiesMust be available for emergency call-ins and occasional overtime to address critical equipment issuesRole requires physical stamina to both perform maintenance tasks and manage supervisory responsibilitiesDesired experience and technical skills
Required
5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or commercial building maintenance, with at least 2 years in a working lead roleStrong hands-on technical skills with pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, utilities, and building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems)Demonstrated expertise in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systemsProficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation systemsWorking knowledge of automation systems, PLCs, and control systemsUnderstanding of cGMP, FDA regulations, and documentation requirementsExperience balancing personal technical work with team supervision responsibilitiesFamiliarity with relevant building codes, OSHA regulations, and industry standardsExcellent problem-solving abilities, communication, and leadership capabilitiesPreferred
