Mainframe Legacy Modernization Architect (GenAI-Powered)

 

Location: Bangalore (Whitefield) or Chennai (Siruseri) or Pune (Talawade) or Mumbai (Airoli (West).

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Technical Architect to lead GenAI-driven legacy modernization initiatives, with a strong focus on mainframe (COBOL, JCL), midrange, and other legacy technologies. The architect will define modernization strategies that leverage Generative AI (LLMs, Code Transformation, Intelligent Refactoring) to accelerate migration, improve code quality, and preserve business logic. The role blends deep legacy expertise with modern cloud-native architecture and AI innovation.

 

Key Responsibilities

Modernization Strategy: Define end-to-end modernization blueprints for mainframe and legacy platforms (COBOL, PL/1, RPG, JCL) using GenAI-powered automation. AI-Driven Transformation: Design and guide adoption of Generative AI tools for code analysis, documentation generation, automated refactoring, and language migration. Legacy-to-Modern Mapping: Architect solutions that transform legacy applications into modern Java, .NET, microservices, or cloud-native platforms while preserving business rules. Tooling & Frameworks: Evaluate, integrate, and optimize AI-assisted tools (code translators, test generators, documentation bots) within modernization pipelines. Integration & Ecosystem: Define approaches to integrate modernized applications with enterprise ecosystems (APIs, event-driven architecture, cloud). Proof of Concepts (POCs): Drive R&D pilots to validate GenAI’s effectiveness in accelerating modernization and reducing manual rework. Governance & Compliance: Ensure transformation solutions adhere to security, compliance, and audit standards for enterprise environments. Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders, modernization teams, and AI/ML experts to align solutions with enterprise IT roadmaps. Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Provide guidance to development teams on legacy code patterns, modernization practices, and GenAI adoption.

 

Skills & Qualifications

Legacy Expertise: Strong background in mainframe technologies (COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2) and midrange/legacy systems. Modern Architectures: Experience architecting Java, .NET, microservices, cloud-native applications. GenAI Knowledge: Understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, embeddings, code generation, and how they can accelerate modernization. Migration Tools: Familiarity with code transformation frameworks, reverse engineering, and static analysis tools. Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on with AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and containerized deployments. Data Modernization: Experience with ETL, database migration (DB2 → relational/cloud), and data lineage in modernization programs. Security & Compliance: Knowledge of enterprise security standards, regulatory compliance, and data privacy requirements. Leadership & Communication: Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and ability to communicate complex solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
