Install, configure, and upgrade DB2 database software and associated tools on mainframe systems, ensuring compatibility, performance, and security.
Create and manage DB2 databases, tablespaces, tables, indexes, and other database objects according to organizational requirements and best practices.
Perform ongoing database maintenance activities such as backup and recovery, reorganization, space management, and health checks to ensure data integrity and availability.
Monitor database performance and resource utilization, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks, tuning SQL queries, and optimizing database parameters.
Implement and maintain database security policies, roles, and permissions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and data privacy standards.
Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patch installations in coordination with change management and business requirements.
Collaborate with application developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to support database-related activities such as development, testing, and production deployments.
Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and standards for database administration tasks, including disaster recovery and high-availability configurations.
Provide technical support to internal teams and end-users by troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues.
Stay current with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in Mainframe DB2 administration, and share knowledge within the team.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator, with a deep understanding of DB2 architecture, internals, and performance tuning.
Proficiency in mainframe database administration tools and utilities such as BMC DB2 Admin Tool, CA Database Management Solutions, or IBM Data Studio.
Strong SQL skills, with the ability to analyze and optimize complex queries for performance and efficiency.
Experience with mainframe storage management, VSAM datasets, and storage subsystems (e.g., DFSMS) is desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders.
Proactive attitude toward learning and continuous improvement, with a passion for staying updated on the latest mainframe technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2 for z/OS or equivalent certification.
Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools such as IBM OMEGAMON for DB2.
Knowledge of mainframe virtualization technologies such as z/VM and z/Linux.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools related to mainframe database administration and automation.
5+ years of experience in DB2 database administration on the mainframe platform.
