Mainframe Application Architect
CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Application Architect opening for our client in North Carolina. Location: Remote Duration: 12 months Duties: Serve as the Application Architect specializing in Mainframe Modernization, with a focus on hardware infrastructure. Assess client needs and define strategies for seamless modernization of mainframe environments. Create detailed roadmaps for modernization, ensuring minimal disruption during transition. Recommend and implement appropriate modernization tools, technologies, and best practices. Monitor production and development environments to ensure hardware functionality and stability. Perform real-time break/fix actions for hardware failures. Triage, diagnose, and repair incidents in mainframe hardware environments. Support hardware patch management, microcode upgrades, and related maintenance activities. Ensure compliance with incident/change management processes using ServiceNow, IBM case submission tools, and Jira. Skills: Strong expertise in mainframe hardware infrastructure: IBM z15/z16, HMC, DS8000, TS7700, TS4500, and FlashSystems. Proficiency with IBM z/OS (Mainframe) and z/VM (zLinux). Hands-on experience with ServiceNow incident/change management, CMDB, and Jira. Knowledge of hardware patch management and microcode upgrade implementations. Ability to execute system commands to support mainframe hardware environments. Skilled in scripting with Linux BASH, Python, and RESTful APIs. Experience: Demonstrated success in mainframe modernization initiatives with emphasis on hardware. Proven background in triaging, diagnosing, and repairing hardware incidents in large-scale environments. Experience with production and development environment monitoring. Practical experience implementing hardware maintenance and upgrade strategies. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
