Your role and responsibilities

We are expanding our team and offering an opportunity for a Main Circuit Design Engineer to participate in the creation of a new product family based on novel technology concept for the medium voltage industrial market.You will work as part of a team of highly skilled professionals in the field of power electronics and electrical machines. Idea generation, problem solving and understanding customer needs are essential to go beyond limits of known technology together with the team.We are looking for an experienced frequency converter Main Circuit Design Engineer with relevant work experience to build an interesting career with us. At ABB, we have a supportive environment for personal and professional growth supported by comprehensive training programs to enhance your skills.This position requires presence in Helsinki factory approximately 50% of work time.You will be mainly accountable for:•As a part of the Motor Solutions team, you will contribute with your skills and experience to the project, which works on a completely new power drive system topology. The work includes tasks from the concept idea generation to volume manufacturing related topics•Specifying, dimensioning and testing power electronics components as part of the complete power drive system from the supply network to the motor•Co-operating with the key suppliers and partners•Interpreting relevant standards and specifying the tests accordingly •Supporting manufacturing and purchasing operations•Contributing to design reviews and project meetings

Qualifications for the role

Know-how on dimensioning and testing power electronics componentsExperience with relevant simulation tools, e.g. Simulink and PlecsUnderstanding of the frequency converter main circuit, the motor and the supply network as a complete systemExperience with new product development processes and practicesAs a person you are collaborative, systematic and analyticalGood written and spoken communication skills in English, Finnish is considered as an advantageM.Sc. level education in Power Electronics or relevant experienceWorking permit in Finland
