This role will be responsible for evaluating, developing, and implementing new machining processes to establish a high volume machining department. Our ideal candidate possesses strong technical engineering knowledge, strong leadership skills, and experience in managing complex projects internally and with development partners. The candidate would love to create new products and manufacturing processes, learn about new technologies, understand user needs and are often thinking about better ways to optimize them. **Your Role on Our Team:** Core Duties and Responsibilities: + Machining Process Development: Conceptualize and develop end-to-end machining processes for various types of CNC equipment, from initial planning through to final production. + Identify equipment best suited for insourcing projects for machined parts. Create and execute capital requests to begin manufacturing components. + Fixture and Tool Design: Design custom part-holding fixtures and select appropriate cutting tools, coordinating with suppliers to source high-quality components. + CNC Programming: Create and optimize CNC cutting programs using MasterCAM, ensuring efficient and precise machining operations. + Process Validation: Conduct process prove-outs and troubleshooting machining operations to ensure repeatability, accuracy, and productivity. + Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Quality Control team to ensure inspection methods and data are thorough, consistent, and aligned with GD&T requirements. + Final System Runoffs: Lead and perform final system runoffs to validate the complete machining process before transitioning to production. + Develop innovative technical solutions to solve customer and manufacturing problems. + Serve as a technical resource your areas of expertise and provide consultation and mentorship to other engineers in the department. + Maintain a high working knowledge of computer-based analysis tools in his/er related field of discipline and be willing to provide on-the-spot troubleshooting analysis as needed. + Able to communicate technical issues in a professional and effective manner to other functions within the organization. + Must possess a working knowledge of the new product development process and basic familiarity with other functions within the company. + Must possess a working knowledge of the new manufacturing process and have experience launching new products within a manufacturing environment. **Knowledge of Materials and Manufacturing Processes:** + You must have the ability to make material or process recommendations based on similar existing parts, experience and theory. Will occasionally and independently explore the use of new materials and manufacturing processes. + Work with and steer development with equipment suppliers to deliver custom processing solutions to achieve goals and targets. + Perform a variety of calculation and software-aided analyses to prove process reliability, capability, and sustainability. + As a subject matter expert, you will provide technical leadership for the team, and drive manufacturing excellence through new processes and methods that will improve safety, reduce product cost and improve product quality + Understanding of cost drivers and how to mitigate them through advanced manufacturing techniques + Create, maintain, and package robust documentation packages for responsible development activities and work with manufacturing team to verify alignment regarding collected information and support the pre-production activities for processes. **Competencies and Personal Attributes:** + Agility-- Embraces change, domestic and international travel + Passionate and Energetic-- Driven to be the best + Entrepreneurial-- Take ownership and appropriate risk, seek breakthroughs + Drive for Results-- Set plans, track progress and deliver commitments + Team Oriented-- embrace teams for overall business success, acting as a leader + Delivery -- put theories into action **The TOOLS you’ll bring with you:** + A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. + Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience + Strong knowledge of CNC machining, CNC programing (MasterCAM, CamWorks, or similar), Fixture design for high volume machining and automation. + Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure part designs are manufacturable and inspection-ready, reducing ambiguity and maximizing conformance. + Strong proficiency in 3D CAD -- NX, SolidWorks, or similar as well as experience with PDM tools such as Teamcenter + Ability to analyze and mathematically model manufacturing & assembly processes + Strong mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of manufacturing process related activities such as fixture design, metal working, stamping, injection molding, forging, machining, polishing, and grinding. + Advanced computer knowledge and skills using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and MS Project **Working Conditions Manufacturing Plant:** + Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE). This may include, but not limited to: safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection. + Usually work indoors which may not be temperature-controlled.
