Job Title: Lumper/ Loader/ Unloader

Job Description

A lumper is responsible for unloading and loading freight in distribution. Lumpers work in teams to handle and sort merchandise, ensuring it is properly organized and ready for distribution.

Responsibilities

Physically unload, load, sort, and organize merchandise from trailers, containers, or delivery vehicles using various tools and equipment.Inspect items for damage, discrepancies, and quality issues as they are unloaded. Report any issues to supervisors.Collaborate with other Lumpers and warehouse staff to efficiently complete unloading and loading tasks. Communicate effectively to ensure a smooth process.Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents or injuries while handling freight. Use proper lifting and equipment operating techniques.Keep track of the quantity and condition of items being loaded or unloaded. Report any discrepancies or shortages.Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or conveyor systems when necessary. Ensure the safe and proper use of equipment.Maintain a clean and organized work area. Dispose of packaging materials and debris appropriately.Complete necessary paperwork, such as receiving and shipping reports, as required.

Essential Skills

Physical labor and stamina for lifting and moving heavy or bulky items.Effective communication and the ability to work as part of a team.Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to follow safety guidelines and protocols.Ability to sort and organize items efficiently.Proficiency in operating material handling equipment, if required.Basic math skills for inventory management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Physical fitness and the ability to perform strenuous tasks.Experience with logistics, palletizing, and general labor.Familiarity with using pallet jacks and electric pallet jacks.

Work Environment

Work in a paper processing and manufacturing facility with shifts from 7 am to 3 pm. The production floor is very loud, and steel toe (or composite) shoes are required at all times.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Covington, Tennessee.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.45 - $15.45/hr.
