Logistics Manager, Project Kuiper
Description Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. We are seeking an experienced logistics manager to lead and oversee the transportation of launch-supporting flight hardware between the vendor and our payload processing facilities (PPFs). This role will be responsible for managing the door-to-door freight execution, ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations. The ideal candidate will drive operational excellent while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and reliability across multiple modes of transportation. This is an on-site, in-person role and is not eligible for remote or hybrid. Key job responsibilities Strategic Program Management: * Lead end-to-end freight operations, including carrier management and performance * Design and optimize shipping routes and schedules to meet program milestones * Execute contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies * Create and maintain logistics budgets and forecasts Operational Excellence: * Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and key logistics partners * Oversee customs compliance and international trade requirements * Drive continuous improvement in logistics processes and procedures * Establish and track KPIs for transportation performance * Implement best practices for handling sensitive and high-value cargo Stakeholder Management: * Collaborate with internal teams (Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Launch, PPF, etc.) * Coordinate with external partners (ports, customs brokers, carriers) * Provide regular updates to leadership on program status and risks * Manage escalations and resolve complex logistics challenges * Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders **Role Impact:** This position will be critical to Kuiper's success by: * Ensuring reliable and secure transportation of launch components * Optimizing logistics costs and efficiency * Maintaining compliance with international regulations * Managing relationships with key logistics partners * Contributing to program-level strategy and planning A day in the life A day in the life 1. Transportation Planning: * Execute comprehensive transportation plans * Coordinate with carriers for specialized equipment needs * Manage transit time requirements and scheduling * Implement tracking and visibility solutions 2. Compliance & Documentation: * Ensure proper documentation for international shipments * Maintain compliance with export/import regulations * Oversee customs clearance processes * Manage shipping permits and certifications 3. Risk Management: * Develop and execute contingency plans for potential disruptions * Manage cargo insurance requirements * Implement security protocols for high-value shipments * Monitor and mitigate supply chain risks 4. Performance Management: * Track and report on logistics KPIs * Analyze and optimize transportation costs * Drive continuous improvement initiatives Basic Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field * 5+ years in ocean logistics and transportation including broker/freight-forwarder management * 5+ years in air logistics and transportation * 5+ years of program management experience * Deep understanding of international shipping regulations and compliance * Experience managing high-value, sensitive cargo transportation * Strong track record of implementing logistics solutions at scale Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field. * Experience in aerospace/satellite industry logistics * Knowledge of ITAR and EAR regulations * Project Management Professional (PMP) certification * Experience with logistics technology platforms and TMS systems (SAP preferably) * Background in risk management and insurance for high-value cargo Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
