 This is a traveling position. This position is responsible for maintaining fleet of locomotives throughout the region and is based out of Richmond, CA.  Tools are provided by the company.

**This position requires travel about 75% of the time and is based out of Richmond, CA** Candidates must be willing to travel within the region.

Compensation: $25.00–$30.00 per hour depending on experience. Wage is negotiable and depending on experience
Estimated Annual Earnings: ~$52,000–$62,000/year based on 40 hours/week (overtime available)

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Locomotive Mechanic, you’ll play a key role in ensuring Railserve’s locomotives operate safely and reliably. You’ll perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on Gen-Set, SW, and GP locomotives, directly communicate with customers, and document all work and parts usage accurately.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues

Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance

Maintain accurate records (PM checklists, invoices, shipping documents, etc.)

Ensure proper handling and disposal of materials like oil and diesel

Conduct safety assessments and follow Railserve PPE and safety procedures

Recommend or implement risk mitigation measures as appropriate

Perform other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

Strong mechanical aptitude required; electrical experience is a plus

Associate’s degree or technical training preferred; equivalent work experience accepted

Valid driver’s license required

Ability to safely operate a cutting torch and electrical welder

Ability to read and follow instructions, communicate clearly, and use basic math skills

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift and move heavy objects and work in outdoor environments

Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, climb, and crouch

Exposure to moving machinery, fumes, and elevated work areas

May be scheduled for night shifts, weekends, or holidays

Noise level is typically moderate
