Job Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Litigation & Operations Legal Specialist to join our team based out of our corporate offices in Plano, TX. 
 
The successful candidate will support the Company’s legal department in multiple different facets which could include, but are not limited to, litigation management (including subpoenas and case management), tracking and monitoring bankruptcies, legal operations (including preparing budgets and financial reports), and legal compliance. 


Key Responsibilities 
 
Litigation Support 
 

Tracking and monitoring customer bankruptcies and report to operations and legal department on the same.  Candidates with bankruptcy experience are preferred, but that experience is not required.   

Manage active litigation docket, including small claims and eviction matters  

Process service of process and assign litigation matters to in-house and outside counsel as appropriate  

Assist in compiling responses to discovery requests, subpoenas, government inquiries, and regulatory investigations  

Support internal investigations, including timeline development and data analysis  

Coordinate with IT and business units to collect electronically stored information (ESI) for discovery and regulatory matters  

Serve as internal liaison between outside counsel, business units, and legal team for fact collection, document production, and discovery coordination  
 

Legal Compliance 

 

 Provide legal compliance guidance to the field operations and commercial real estate teams on various matters, including delinquent accounts, property management issues, and operations policies  

Legal Operations 
 

Receive service of process and assign cases to in-house and outside counsel  

Maintain and update matter management systems, including opening matters, tracking status, managing budgets, and reporting on outcomes  

Manage monthly accruals and track legal spend by matter type for reporting  

Prepare and manage payment requests for legal invoices to ensure timely payment  

Prepare monthly reports on various metrics, including legal activity and spend  

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and ABA-approved paralegal certificate or equivalent legal training required, with 5+ years of relevant experience 

Thorough working knowledge of, and advanced aptitude in using, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Word, and corporate legal databases such as CounselLink, CSC, ServiceNow (or similar ticketing/matter management systems), Westlaw, PACER, Docuware, and Yardi and ability and aptitude to learn new applications and programs  

Excellent communication skills  

Must be detailed oriented and highly organized  

Must be a self-starter and possess strong multi-tasking skills  

Must be able to adapt and function well within a highly dynamic, high-paced environment
