Engineer Analyst (Linux OS) / Analyst Linux Server Engineer

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Products, under limited direction, you will be responsible for design, provision, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure for the Linux estate. You will provide engineering design and support for multi-tenant platforms in a single domain including hardware, software, automation and monitoring. You will work closely with application management, application development, and other IT teams to support Linux Server infrastructure (both physical and virtual). The successful candidate must have a solid work ethic, be detail oriented, and have strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
60% - Primary role is to ensure the global stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the systems and infrastructure that support core organizational functions, as well as to conduct research on new and emerging technologies for practical application to business problems and strategic initiatives.20% - Experienced knowledge of job role demonstrating advanced application of technical skills and interpersonal competencies20% - Provides direct global technical support for all requirements in developing strategy, planning, coordination, scripting, and implementation of releases, upgrades, or changes to our distributed computing environment. This includes participating in several small to medium-scale projects and/or tasks of various complexities across the enterprise.Your duties and responsibilities:
Provide direct technical support for all requirements in the management or changes to our Linux distributed computingPerform capacity planning, performance monitoring, tuning, and prediction.Provide high-level support for infrastructure with regards to the Linux operating systems, ensuring proper change management procedures and methodologies are followed.Some after-hours work will be requiredPosition will require participation in an after-hours, on-call rotation to assist with incident handling for the purpose of resolving server related infrastructure issuesProvide technical assistance/guidance to less experienced administratorsOn call rotation: Twice monthly on call rotation and primary contact for Linux during UK hoursYou Will Have:
Hands-on experience installing and supporting Suse Linux Servers. Other flavors are desired: RedHat, Ubuntu and Oracle LinuxExperience working with and troubleshooting Suse boot processesStrong experience with Bash and Perl ScriptingStrong hands-on experience installing and supporting VMwareHands-on experience managing IaaS and PaaS in Microsoft Azure and/or AWSExcellent oral, written, interpersonal, and communication skills are requiredIn-depth knowledge of server technologies employed, hardware, O/S, and related tools and applicationsExpert technical diagnostic and research skills of servers, expert troubleshootingAbility to identify and escalate issues to management when appropriate to meet SLA requirementsIn-depth knowledge of networking components and services such as TCP/IP protocols, DHCP and DNS technologies, and LAN/WAN topologies and transportsRequires ability to correctly assess risks of various alternatives and take appropriate actions to restore services in the event of system outagesAbility to explain the technical implications of various alternative solutions to managementStrong customer service orientation, proven dependability, promptness, and a solid attendance historyAbility to perform in a highly motivated, self-directed, and well-organized manner to handle multiple assignments concurrently.Other skills/experience would be helpful to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fieldExperience with BigFix for ApacheExperience with Nutanix HCIExperience using ServiceNow ITIL managed processesTravel/Shift Work: This position requires the ability to travel 20% of the time. Also, potential to have a sliding shift start/stop times to ensure we have global coverage 24/7. This will be a WFH position that will require the ability to potentially be in the office 1 day a month.
