Position reports to Dearborn, MI office. Telecommuting permitted in accordance with company policy, but must live within commuting distance of stated office. Responsible for defining requirements, product design, tooling, validation testing, and launching in an assembly plant during the development of Exterior Lighting products throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle. Lead and drive a cross functional team that includes lighting suppliers, optics, software, studio, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions. Serve as headlamp optical expert for all global markets (North America [Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS)] [NA], Economic Commission for Europe [ECE], China Compulsory Certification [CCC]). Perform headlamp performance (Consumer Reports [CR], New Car Assessment Program [NCAP], Insurance Institute for Highway Safety [IIHS], JD Power) evaluations, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation for lighting (AVx, SPEOS, LucidShape, LucidDrive), headlamp performance database reports, optics reviews, High Impact Requirements (HIR), Final Data Judgment (FDJ) signoffs and meeting minutes. Perform pre-Program Start (PS) headlamp performance evaluations, IIHS, CR correlation studies, and IIHS performance improvement – supplier support. Develop global beam panel evaluation tool for headlamp performance. Develop and prove out new CAE test methods (thermal, airflow, IIHS, China Insurance Automotive Safety Index [CIASI], etc.) for Exterior Lighting. Develop new and existing Intellectual Property for applications use cases. Support Total Value Management (TVM) efforts with optics knowledge, communicating information to and from internal and external organizations. Lead team meetings with suppliers, designers, engineers, manufacturing, and supplier quality. **You'll have...** A bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Science and Engineering, or a related field and 1 year of experience in the position offered or 1 year of experience developing automotive exterior lighting including Optical Engineering. Requires 1 year of experience: using optical knowledge for all global regulatory markets (NA, ECE, CCC); performing headlamp performance (Consumer Reports/New Car Assessment Program /Insurance Institute for Highway Safety/JD Power) evaluations; performing Computer-Aided Engineering Simulations for lighting (AVx/SPEOS/LucidShape/LucidDrive); performing mechanical engineering (Structures, Mechanics, and Thermal Loading); performing electrical engineering (Mechatronics, Circuits, and Electrical Loading); and performing software engineering and feature development. We are offering a salary of $72,467.00 - $197,792.48/yr.
