Loyola University & Medical Center in Chicago has an exciting opportunity for a part time Counselor/Social Worker. The Behavioral Health team is seeking future colleagues with a passion to provide advanced behavioral health knowledge and skills including direct and indirect assessment and care to patients and families, crisis intervention, support group facilitation, behavioral health education and problem solving in all clinical care areas.
Performance of direct specialized care with patients who have been identified as needing psychological assessment or interventions beyond the scope of general patient care practice.
What you will do:
This position will offer support to the different areas within the department. Will require a minimum of one 8hr shift/week.
INPATIENT:
Completes Level of Care (psychosocial assessment) and participates in the development of the individual treatment plan on all inpatients. Regularly consults with attending psychiatrists regarding patients' condition throughout treatment. Participates in weekly clinical staffing with the treatment team. Coordinates discharge planning in conjunction with the treating psychiatrist. Focuses on psychosocial needs of the patient including comprehensive aftercare plans and housing when indicated. Conducts family sessions whenever feasible. Facilitates legal process and documentation for involuntary admissions and medication petitions.
OUTPATIENT:
Conducts group therapy sessions and performs case management responsibilities for behavioral health patients participating in intensive outpatient programming. Completes comprehensive psychiatric and substance use assessments to determine patients' individual needs. Continuously evaluates level of risk and protective factors. Collaborates with Psychiatric NP and Psychiatrist regarding treatment planning, discharge planning and clinical staffing for all patients. Conducts in-services, provides patient referrals, and completes insurance pre-authorizations and utilization review process. Provides crisis intervention as necessary.
ASSESSMENT & REFERRAL:
Provides psychiatric and substance use assessments, crisis intervention and consultation to the Emergency Department and nursing units. Responds in person and via telephone to those in behavioral health crises. Provides psychosocial support to patients and families who are in acute distress. Determines appropriate level of care through the assessment process. Facilitates admissions to psychiatric treatment or provides appropriate outpatient referrals when indicated. Completes eligibility/benefit verifications and insurance pre-authorizations. Consults with on-call psychiatrist on all patients. Coordinates incoming transfers to Behavioral Health units from other facilities. Completes legal paperwork prior to admission. Collaborates with nursing staff regarding patients' medical needs and placement on appropriate inpatient psychiatric units.
What you will need:
Master's degree required in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work
Certification/Licensure: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW) preferred.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to manage crisis situations calmly and effectively.
Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations.
Compensation:
Salary Range: $30.00 - $41.59 per hour
Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
