The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH), operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is currently seeking experienced LPN II professionals to join our Med/Surg unit teams. In this vital role, you'll work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to provide direct, practical nursing care to a diverse patient population, including individuals from the Department of Mental Health (DMH), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Department of Correction (DOC), Houses of Correction (HOC), and the broader community. As an LPN II, you'll take the lead in coordinating high-quality care by directing ancillary staff and implementing the nursing process to support patient recovery and well-being.
Please Note: Multiple Shifts available. Full Time and Part Time available. Days off are assigned; work every other weekend.

Deliver direct bedside nursing care and implement interventions under RN supervisionAdminister medications as prescribed; monitor effectiveness and report adverse reactionsPerform technical nursing procedures as directed by RNAccurately document patient care and intervention outcomes per hospital policyMonitor and report changes in patient condition to Nurse Manager and charge nurseMaintain a safe, therapeutic environment in alignment with safety and infection control protocolsManage and document narcotic administrationSupervise and guide attendant nursing staff during team assignmentsProvide on-the-job training to LPN I staff and Nursing AssistantsParticipate in patient care planning, team meetings, and community meetingsEngage in ongoing professional development through assigned and elective educational programsSupport departmental safety, risk management, and cost-effective care initiativesContribute to performance improvement activities within the hospital and departmentFoster a therapeutic milieu and serve as a resource for patients, families, staff, and external partnersDeliver age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care to all patientsEnsure continuity of care through effective hand-off communicationRequired Qualifications:

Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.
Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.
The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.
