JOB SUMMARY


Library Systems & Services is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Librarian Intern. As a Librarian Intern in our library, you will gain valuable experience in all aspects of library operations, including programming, youth services, reference, circulation, cataloging, and collection development. You will work closely with our experienced Library Management team to develop your skills and contribute to the success of our library. The primary focus of this position will be library programming and youth services. The successful candidate will serve as the lead librarian and have a role in all aspects of the library including coordinating activities, grants, collection development and program planning.


Employment Type: Non-Exempt (Hourly), Full-time

Hours Per Week: 40

Hourly Pay Rate: $23.00


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

Coordinates and executes a variety of programs and initiatives for the library.Assists in the planning      and creating of content for the library's social media presence.Provide reference      and computer help to patrons.Assist with collection development and maintenance, including cataloging and shelving.Conduct circulation transactions and help users navigate library systemsCollaborate with library staff to plan and execute library events and programming.Assist with outreach efforts, including promoting library services and resources.Participate in staff meetings and contribute to ongoing library projects.May supervise junior Library Associates, which includes managing performance, evaluation, interviewing and hiring, training, and approving timesheets.Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(s) Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.Perform other duties as assigned by supervising librarians.


Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Library Science or proof of acceptance into an ALA accredited program within 3 months of hireStrong customer service skills and ability to work with diverse populations.Excellent communication skills– both verbal and writtenAble to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.Proficiency in the MS Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Familiarity with library systems and databases, including cataloging and circulation systems.Knowledge of bibliographic sources and research techniquesStrong written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Detail-oriented, organized, and able to prioritize tasks effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens
or detailed paperworkOccasionally lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and
other materials
