The Manassas Park City Library (MPCL) serves as a vibrant community hub dedicated to providing a diverse range of innovative resources, programs, and services. Founded in 2020, MPCL moved to the newly redeveloped Park Central in the heart of Manassas Park in Summer 2022. Conveniently co-located with City Hall, the new Park Central Library location is the community’s most exciting destination for learning, discovering, creating, and connecting.

The Manassas Park City Library seeks a full-time Librarian 1 to provide excellence in services and programs to the Manassas Park community. This is an exciting position for an early career Librarian who will create engaging informative programs, excels at connecting patrons to our current technology and resources, and is excited by the possibility of promoting the Library to the community. 

This position is under the supervision of the Library Director and is responsible for supervising staff as assigned in providing outreach, programming, and instruction to Manassas Park City Library patrons.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.  

As part of the management team, participate in the management of staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, assigning tasks, motivating, evaluating, and staff development.Lead Programming Team – oversee the program proposal process; aid with proposal creation, maintain an archive of programs, facilitate team meetings, and ensure alignment with strategic goals and collection development effortsDevelop an outreach plan and priorities to increase engagement of the Library in the community.Connect Patrons with Library and community resources and servicesProvide leads and suggestions for future programming efforts based on best practices and community input; guide brainstorming for stellar programmingPlan and present inter-generational programmingPlan, present, and coordinate presenters for classes and events, maintain lists for future referenceFacilitate, maintain, and update the library program marketing to ensure quality and compliance; including the Library’s social media presence, website, and online calendar of eventsTrack and maintain program statistics, ensuring statistics are entered accurately and compiling statistical reports as assignedMaintain programming supplies, including organizing and distributing stored or new supplies, and purchasing supplies at the discretion of the DirectorWork with staff to plan and promote Summer Reading events and programsProvide information, instruction, and research help in person, online, and over the phoneSupport staff training effortsResolve patron issues, including Library account and policy questionsMay handle opening and closing responsibilities; counting money, completing cash reportsPrepare and deliver reports and presentations to staff, the Library, and Community as assignedAct as the Person In-Charge (PIC) in the absence of Library ManagementOther duties as assigned Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

MLS or MLIS degree requiredOne year librarian experience preferredProficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPointKnowledge of online library databases and services Excellent customer service skillsExcellent communication skills– both verbal and writtenAble to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends.Ability to speak multiple languages preferred

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens
or detailed paperworkOccasionally lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and
other materials
