What is the opportunity?
RBC is seeking two Lead SRE’s 1 for RBC Clear Technology and other for SRE Resilience engineering team.

RBC Clear Technology: This is a brand-new system to serve our corporate clients. You will be heavily involved in shaping the future technology landscape of RBC, by delivering key business values for a transformational project in our Banking Technology while implementing strategic components servicing across all RBC functions defined in our roadmap. This role will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and support of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) solutions for applications supported by the Commercial, Core Banking and Payments Technology (CCBPT) within RBC Clear Technology.

SRE Resilience engineering team:  This team will be the expert and consultant to all things SRE for Commercial, Core Banking and Payments Technology (CCBPT). This position will provide great exposure to a deep portfolio ranging from Personal Banking, Retail Credit, RBC Clear Technology, Digital Cheque and many more. You will be helping each Production Operation squad to increase their SRE maturity through automation, industry best practice and AI.


What will you do?

Provide SRE technical leadership on squad level

Lead code and non-functional (performance, security, maintainability, compliance, change management) reviews of all production bound SRE solutions

Drive transformation by continuously looking for ways to automate existing processes

Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications

Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions

Support incident management and problem management for applications in scope and RCA Action items fulfillment/ownership

Focus on Continuous improvement and technical standards – Drive improvements in productivity, monitoring, tooling and best practices

Manage technology currency (server patching, certificate renewal, compliance, etc.) with keen eye on automating opportunities

Drive best-in-class technical solutions by tracking closely industry leading solutions and applying to RBC environment and needs

Leverage the value in unit, department, and enterprise-wide teams to develop better solutions and achieve a cross-enterprise mindset

Ensure availability and uptime of applications in scope, as per service level objectives.

Build and implement monitoring and alerting, anomaly detection, self-healing and reliability testing for applications in scope


Production Support: RBC Clear Technology Team

Be an escalation point in the on-call rotation, and support our maintenance, scheduled work, support, and release deployment requirements

Lead in incident management and problem management for applications in scope

Drive improvements in productivity, monitoring, tooling, and best practices

Manage technology currency (patching, certificate renewal, compliance, etc.) with keen eye on automating opportunities

Ensure availability and uptime of applications in scope, as per service level objectives

Engineering:  Resiliency Engineering Team

Knowledge of troubleshooting in Kubernetes

Ability to relay business requirement to technical requirement

Knowledge of security process, such as PAM, Cert and RSA

Hand on Observability and alerting tool such as Dynatrace, Elastic, Splunk , PagerDuty and Moogsoft

Deep understanding of DR (Disaster Recovery) process and know how to navigate tight deadlines for different platforms, Cloud, Windows, Linux and Mainframe

What do you need to succeed?
Must have:

5+ years of experience as Site Reliability Engineer

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field (Example: Mathematics/Engineering/Physics), or equivalent practical experience.

Advanced knowledge of the following SRE practices and technologies

Python, YAML, Shell scripting

Azure, Linux

Dynatrace, Prometheus, PagerDuty, Moog, Splunk, Elastic, Azure monitor, Grafana

Chaos Engineering

MQ, Kafka

Perform production support role, including off-hours support (RBC Clear Technology Only)

Effective negotiation skills, and stakeholder management

Excellent communication skills

 
Nice-to-have: 
In-depth hands-on experience in a variety of SRE tools (Ansible, Azure Automation, Catchpoint)
Experience working as an SRE within the Financial Industry
